CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.
Most Republicans do not want to see former Alaska governor Sarah Palin enter the presidential race, a new CBS News poll finds.
Fifty-four percent of Republican registered voters want Palin to stay out of the race, as do 50 percent of Tea Party supporters. Just 34 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Tea Party supporters want her to seek the Republican nomination. Overall, two-thirds of registered voters want Palin to stay out of the race.
Republicans are split on opinions of Palin overall: Thirty-seven percent have a favorable view, 36 percent have an unfavorable view, and 25 percent have no opinion. Her favorable rating among all voters, meanwhile, is just 21 percent, with 57 percent holding an unfavorable view.
The Republican presidential candidate with the highest net favorability rating among Republican voters is Mitt Romney, who has a 37 percent favorable rating and an 11 percent unfavorable rating. But despite Romney's relatively high profile, half say they don't know enough about him or have no opinion.

RE: Well, Im a conservative and I dont want her to run
Why not?
How many Democrats want Obama to stay out of the race?
That would make a good poll, I think
There is no other candidate that has better name recognition than Palin.
maddow and o’donnell spent nearly their entire shows last night talking about sarah palin. private citizen.
I’m sure the poll is skewed in many ways, but the main one that jumps out at me is that it’s a poll of REGISTERED voters. Those numbers are never accurate.
You have to hand it to the media in this country, they can demonize a person to the point that people will hate the target or fear to be associated with the target, without being able to articulate a reason why.
At the same time, a drumbeat of favorable coverage can prop up even the most radical Marxist.
Still, since I tend to think for myself and not let the left tell me what I should think, I will vote for Sarah if she decides to run, and I for one hope she does.
They are called Obama supporters.
Sorry, Sarah!
Palin’s numbers seem typical for a big time celebrity. High positives and high negatives. People like that are either loved or hated—not much in between.
Yeah, why not?
Note to CBS: Wish in one hand, crap in the other....see which fills up first.
RE: Krautlamer sayz on Fox last night that “Name recognition will be the key” to getting the nomination

How much name recognition did Barry have when he was running against the very well known sHrillary?
It is nothing short of incredible how this woman just scares the living hell out of these folks. They know damn well if she runs the office is hers. The left just couldn’t stand it if the right had the first woman President. Expect a whole lot more of this tripe from ‘See BS’ and other LSM outlets.
What the headline should say is “RINOs don’t want Palin to run for POTUS”.
Resistance is futile.
Prepare to be liberated, America!!!
That settles it for me . . I guess it’ll be the Mormom vs. the Muslim.
What is “president”? I thought it was “President”...
At any rate, I remain fairly disgusted with many Americans. Most apparently lack the spine and intellect to see through the media spin on Sarah Palin. From everything I’ve seen of her, she’d be the best President we’ve had in a long, long time.
Also, there is the issue that some fairly large percentage of the population has decided that government dependency is a good thing. “We’re the government, and we’re here to help!” :-P
Palin ‘12!!!
The good news is that it IS a CBS poll, which means it’s probably slanted to the left a good deal.
The bad news is, I’ve never seen a CBS slanted SO FAR to the left that it would completely make up the deficit Palin seems to have - which suggests the overall is correct, even if the numbers are slanted.
I’m guessing they only polled the RNC, because there’s no way, no how that as many as 12% of the general population are even aware of Jon Huntsman.
Jon who?
