For months, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has told potential donors and Republican higher-ups he has no interest in running for the White House in 2012.
But over the past two weeks, political advisers and friends say, Mr. Perry has changed his tune on a possible presidential campaign. In private conversations, they say, the three-term governor said he worries that the current GOP contenders have yet to stir real excitement within the party and may struggle when facing President Barack Obama.
"He thinks there is a void [in the current field of candidates], and that he might be uniquely positioned to fill that void," said one Perry confidant who talked to the governor last week.
In these conversations, the governor has emphasized his own track record in bringing jobs to Texas, which has created more jobs than any other state in recent years. That success, he has told supporters, would position him well in an election that will likely pivot on jobs.

They damned well might if unemployment in the rest of the country stands near 10% at election time and Texas is still creating jobs. It's the economy, brother.
I hear what you're saying, but the truth is, Americans are going to want another choice, other than Rick Perry. So do I.

I would be entirely content with Perry as the nominee. We can cherry pick an issue on any candidate and label them a RINO. It’s not a fair charge here based upon my review of Perry’s record. As to electability, in the midst of a truly crappy economy, being the three term Governor of the state that has added more jobs over the past decade than all other states combined is going to be damn compelling. Not to mention presiding over one of the few states without budgetary woes while having one of the lowest tax burdens in the Country.

I’d happily vote for Perry over Ozero, I would vote for my right shoe over Ozero
I don't know Perry well. But what I do know is he's a career politician who at 61 feels he still has a future. Obviously being a smart politician, I'd bet he's waiting to see what Gov. Palin’s intentions are before he makes a decision. I'd be very surprised if he ends up running against her.

Perry’s shaky at best, even tho I’m proud he’s our governor and not Bill White. But I’ll tell you what...if Perry doesn’t get busy in this Special Session and get some of the legislation shoved through that we need so badly, he’s toast in my book...so he’d better get busy! And then I’m still not sure I want to trust him in DC.
Rick Perry has had absolutely nothing to do with job creation in Texas. Zero. He did sign a bill implementing a corporate income tax.
I agree but this is typical Perry. Bring up immigration in the special session for political reasons. A smart politician who says anything to win. Recent election he was spouting how Texas has a surplus and right after winning the election discloses billions of deficit. RINO.
I might feel somewhat OK with Perry if he would put that anti groping bill on the special session calendar but it looks like he’s not so I’ll say no thanks Rick.
As I’ve made abundantly clear, I’d need to see both the anti-groping bill and the campus carry bill added to the special session. After all the lip service he’s paid to state sovereignty and concealed carry rights, and after he made such a big a deal out of how he was going to make the Democrats pay for causing gridlock during the regular session, if he doesn’t add those bills to the special session, I’m going to have trouble believing anything he says from now on.
