Big Media Eats Crow While Palin Plays Gotcha (Sarah was right about Paul Revere)
American Thinker ^ | 06/07/2011 | M Catharine Evans

The mainstream media continues to embarrass itself while trying to embarrass Sarah Palin. From whining about having to pee on the side of the road in pursuit of the family tour bus to the newest feeding frenzy over Palin's Paul Revere remarks, they are exposing themselves as a juvenile lot. Their latest schoolyard taunt even has the liberal press breaking ranks.

The Boston Globe quoted Brendan McConville, a Boston University history professor admitting that Palin got her Revere facts right.

What she's saying there is essentially right...When Paul Revere was stopped by British soldiers the night of his famous ride, he did say to them that the countryside is mobilizing and you've lost the element of surprise.

Of course the liberal-minded McConville couldn't resist undermining Mrs. Palin by saying she was "lucky in her history as opposed to knowledgeable."

Andrew Malcolm of the L.A. Times also backed up Sarah's account

That the Republican non-candidate, in fact, knew more about the actual facts of Revere's midnight ride than all those idiots unknowingly revealing their own ignorance by laughing at her faux faux pas? How secretly embarrassing this must be, to be forced to face that you're dumber than the reputed dummy.

The well-known fable is Revere's late-night ride to warn fellow revolutionaries that...the British were coming. Less known, obviously, is the rest of the evening's events in which Revere was captured by said redcoats and did indeed defiantly warn them of the awakened militia awaiting their arrival ahead and of the American Revolution's inevitable victory.

Palin knew this. The on-scene reporters did not and ran off like Revere to alert the world to Palin's latest mis-speak, which wasn't.

Like a number of famous faux gaffes in American politics, the facts of the situation no longer really matter.

Yes, Andrew "the facts of the situation no longer really matter" unless you happen to be Barack Obama. At least Sarah was in the ballpark with her history. Who can forget his "misstatement" back in 2008.

It is wonderful to be back in Oregon...Over the last 15 months, we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."

How about the bomb unleashed on Pearl Harbor?

Throughout our history, America's confronted constantly evolving danger, from the oppression of an empire, to the lawlessness of the frontier, from the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor, to the threat of nuclear annihilation. Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world.

Or the 1965 March on Selma which inspired his birth in 1961?

There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Alabama.

The loyal propagandists of the American Pravda chalked up Obama's ignorance to a grueling campaign schedule. But after 2 ½ long years of trying to defend the indefensible the One's cordon sanitaire is breaking down. Palin bashing just isn't what it used to be.

How can you continue live in your stupidy? Just admit Palin is smarter than you and move on.

Looks like a reasonable cleanup.

The Official Reality for Revere seems to be Longfellow’s poem. I was taught that as factual when in grade school.

MSM knows that the poem is Official Reality, so immediately was able to pounce.

No amount of patient history explanation will overcome the effect of a coordinated media enforcement of The official reality, I’m afraid. Look at how many people think Palin said she could see Russia from her house.

Any chance the video is on Youtube. I’d make an extra effort to see that.

Revere did not shout the phrase later attributed to him (”The British are coming!”), largely because the mission depended on secrecy and the countryside was filled with British army patrols, and because the colonists themselves were British. Revere’s warning, according to eyewitness accounts of the ride and Revere’s own descriptions, was “The Regulars are coming out.”

I stopped watching Leno when he went ballistic with some of the nastiest jokes about Linda Tripp and Paula Jones, mostly about their appearances, as if his looks were so great! He’s so brilliant that he can’t tell a joke without having someone write them for him.

Sorry, FRiend, but she tortured a bit of real history in order to make a dramatic point. The fact of the matter is that Revere, Dawes, and all the other alarm riders were on a mission to alert the provincials that the regulars were moving out that night/early morning from the island of Boston to march on Lexington and Concord. The provincials were on high alert because this was like the third or fourth time the regulars had performed this type of operation throughout Massachusetts and even southern New Hampshire, and the last time they did it - the Powderhouse Alarm - they had seized a bunch of power/arms that the provincials (rightly) thought belonged to them and their militias. THIS is why the whole concept of "minute men" evolved.

And yeah, I'm pretty well-versed in the subject, and I'll put my knowledge of colonial Massachusetts history up along with professional historians because I've read a good deal of their work . . . both scholarly work and work for general consumption.

Sarah knew this because she had just completed an American History bus tour. My wife and I have done a similar trip several years ago, probably stopping at some of the same exact locations. I learned at a national site from the ranger there about that midnight ride. Which I THOUGHT I knew because as a kid I had memorized the Longfellow poem. (yes the WHOLE thing). Well we learned that there were several riders and that Revere never even completed his ride, that he was caught and detained by the British. I was shocked! It was actually Dr. Samuel Prescott who made it to Concord, (Massachusetts, Michele), to warn the colonists there.

We were on a part of the actual road where Revere, Dawes, and Prescott had ridden that night. Period houses were reconstructed there. After having visited Gettysburg and many other civil war sites, I was surprised at how little of our independence sites were preserved or reconstructed. A national embarrassment if you ask me. We went to Plymouth, Concord, Boston, Salem, had a great time. Inexpensive vacation. Saw the sites, ate at Cheers, heard a speech on the Boston Commons, Stood where the shot heard round the world was fired, walked the Lexington Common where the first patriots were killed.

“The regulars then charged forward with bayonets. Captain Parker's cousin Jonas was run through. Eight Massachusetts men were killed and ten were wounded; only one British soldier of the 10th Foot wounded. The eight colonists killed were John Brown, Samuel Hadley, Caleb Harrington, Jonathon Harrington, Robert Munroe, Isaac Muzzey, Asahel Porter, and Jonas Parker II. Jonathon Harrington, fatally wounded by a British musket ball, managed to crawl back to his home, and died on his own doorstep. One wounded man, Prince Estabrook, was a black slave who was serving in the militia.[58]

Jonas Parker II had been imbibing the spirits of a bar nearby his house when he heard the minute men alarm bell. Drunk, he grabbed his gun and staggered out onto the Lexington green. During the battle, he was first shot in the leg, bringing him to his knees. While kneeling, he fired the shot that brought the British’s sole casualty. He was then stabbed by a bayonet and killed.[59]”

Sarah is RIGHT. Experience your American history.

Sarah goes back on Jay soon and I’m sure she will point ut his error for him if he doesn’t correct it by then. Sarah is very good about that stuff.

I was happy that O’Reilly corrected Bernie Goldberg and that Goldberg acknowledged his error. But, thought it was interesting that O’Reilly ended with giving Gov.Palin ‘the benefit of the doubt’. Hmm, Bill, there’s no doubt......Gov. Palin was correct.

I saw that and loved it! I honestly am wondering if Sarah did this on purpose to embarass the press?

‘...Anyone who heard those reports and didn’t know better would probably believe that Palin was wrong..’

exactly. sadly, people hear snippets of info and that’s what they believe.

Paul did not set out on his ride to get captured by the british and anyone that thinks so is nuts.

Yeah, and so are those who claim his horse threw a shoe.

Seriously, I haven't seen anyone claim that he set out to be captured. If I missed that please reference it for me.

Hey, you are certainly allowed your opinion, especially seeing that you have served your country well as a member of the armed forces.

But speaking of history, your history as a Freeper shows that you are not a supporter of Gov Palin in any way shape or form (it`s in the record), so the fact that you felt it necessary to nitpick Gov Palin on this is very suspect..sorry Friend...Not to mention that you are wrong....or as the saying goes, I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong.

“Look at how many people think Palin said she could see Russia from her house.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

People who voted for Obamalama DingDong are not interested in reality, they believe things like Lincoln was a Democrat, George Wallace was a Republican, the KKK is a Republican terrorist front, Republicans have always been the party of racism and only racists oppose Obama and they oppose him only because he is “BLACK”, they literally are NOT interested in the truth except the truth defined as what they WANT to believe. Anyone proudly claiming to be a liberal and or a Democrat is either dumb as a rock or is out to serve his own ends by calling himself a liberal.

No, I'm not a big supporter of Sarah Palin, but that really has no relevance here to my stance on this specific topic. If she were right, I'd have no problem defending her. But I've seen the video, and I know the history, and it's not my "opinion" that she flat-out tortured the history in order to make her point, it's a fact. I'm sorry that doesn't fit in with your "Sarah as Deity" mindset, but it's true.

Listen: we're all fallible people, including Sarah. She made a mistake. Own up to it and move on. Casuistry does not strengthen your cause.
