Palin dismisses Geithner on debt ceiling
Washington Post ^ | Thursday June 2, 2011 | Dan Balz and Philip Rucker

SEABROOK, N.H. — Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (R) teed off on Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner on Thursday night, saying she does not believe his “false statements” that a “catastrophe would befall” the country if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling by August.

On her first day in New Hampshire, Palin held an impromptu news conference as she was leaving a clambake here. She encouraged congressional Republicans to hold firm in the debt-ceiling negotiations, and she said the cost of the war in Afghanistan and the posture of the Afghan government should prompt consideration of a drawdown of U.S. forces there.

Geithner, she said, has “given us now four different due dates where catastrophe would befall us if the debt ceiling is not raised. … Well, once bitten, twice shy. How many more times are we going to have to hear this date change?” Of the August deadline Geithner says is the absolute cutoff for congressional action, she said, “I don’t believe it.”

She urged Republican leaders in Congress not to give in to the Obama administration’s demands, saying it would be “a failure of leadership” to yield at this point.

Her comments on Afghanistan added to growing doubts about an extended stay for U.S. forces. Palin said it is time to reevaluate the U.S. mission there.

Nope!! You are misguided on why she is saying what she just said - Clarification:

"After learning this afternoon of Afghan President Karzai’s ultimatum to NATO concerning airstrikes, we need to consider how dangerous this new development is. While it's always devastating to hear about civilians killed in the fight against the Taliban, President Karzai surely knows that no one works harder to eliminate civilian casualties than NATO. His public ultimatum issued today to allies and supposed friends is dangerous. What President Karzai is saying is that if we don’t severely limit our air campaign he will take “unilateral action.” And he further says that if the airstrikes continue we will be seen as an “occupying” power.

This is an indirect way of saying that American and NATO forces will be fair game, which is obviously an unacceptable situation that threatens our troops. His comments reflect the reality that there is a growing divide between NATO and the Karzai government. Let us be clear: we are in Afghanistan fighting for the Afghan people and for the security of our country and our allies. If President Karzai continues with these public ultimatums, we must consider our options about the immediate future of U.S. troops in his country.

If he actually follows through on his claim that Afghan forces will take “unilateral action” against NATO forces who conduct such air raids to take out terrorists and terrorist positions, that should result in the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and the suspension of U.S. aid. I still firmly support our mission in Afghanistan, but we must have the support of the host government. Our troops’ mission will be compromised and their safety endangered if the Afghan government threatens us. -Sarah Palin

Debt ceiling goes up, who wins? The banksters and chinamen receiving the interest.

No. Karzai is speaking to a domestic element within Astan. We know it, he knows it and there is no reason to publicly give the Taliban more Propganda to spin within those Mtns that Amercia is leaving soon and if you support us (in any form) you will pay dearly once we are gone. Those within influence CONUS, should not be giving such propaganda to the Taliban. Just as Obama should have never given out deadlines, benchmarks with dates. This cost lives. Real warriors lives were lost because of such. Trust me.

Governor Palin says a lot of things that I can't disagree with.

Mark Levin leveled a serious broadside at Charles Krauthammer and Karl Rove on his show tonight, by asking them, "What exactly are your actual policy disagreements with Governor Palin?"

He went on to note that there's a segment of so-called conservatives who are nearly as anti-Palin as the rabid left, and who, like them, can go on all day about why they don't like her, but can't come up with any substantive arguments against her conservative credentials.

I had to laugh out loud, because I see these sorts of people posting on Free Republic every day.

Well, honcho Karzai of Astan is now threatening to declare NATO troops an occupying force. (with all that implies) If they do not stop airstrikes which occasionally kill civilians the perps are using as human shields. (Sarah Palin brought this up a couple days ago)

Granddaughter’s fiancé (82nd Airborne) just returned from Astan, did not have much to say, except it is a general cluster fornication and one hell of a way to fight a war.

When pushed, anti-Palinites of my acquaintance have come up with the following core reasons for their distaste:

1. Her accent.

2. She knows the words to country songs.

3. Her speech pattern.

4. She didn't go to an Ivy League school.

5. Nobody lives in Alaska.

6. She's a girl.

7. Katie Couric didn't like her.

Good for Mark! We need more like him: articulate conservative voices who are capable of and willing to jam it down Krauthammer and Rove’s throats. I’d love to see someone try to mount an argument that Mark Levin isn’t one of the sharpest knives in the drawer. Ha!

Bottom line is, in a number of these events we most certainly would be better off putting trigger pullers through those doors, not JDAMs ontop of them.

Yes, there is more immediate risk, to the boots going in... but years in to a war like this, there is much more prolonged risk by not taking that risk up front through those doors.....Now this is not in all cases. But in some of these situations the Civ casualty risk / enemy KIA reward is not worth it.

With that said, Karzai can pound sand if I could have comments behind closed doors with him. And hopefully some within the current Admin are telling him such (as the past Administration most certainly

When I listen to most PDSers, I can clearly hear the leftist MSM talking through them.

When challenged, some of them will attempt to come up with some sort of policy disagreement to save face, but the big question always lingers -- how can you possibly be down on such an outspoken champion of conservative values, who not only talks the talk, but who has already walked the walk?

I tell you, it was a beautiful rant. One for the vault of ages.

Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama isn't!

I would add to all those ‘ruling effete’ repellant virtues that she is originally from Idaho.

I love fly over country, and the people from there. Well, there are a few exceptions, but not very many.

Thanks Bigtigermike. The partisan media shills can't even report the story:
...saying she does not believe his "false statements" that a "catastrophe would befall" the country if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling by August.
Instead of just quoting her outright, quote marks are used to denigrate what she's said.

Thanks, Sarah, for being a Debt Ceiling Disaster Denialist. :')

I wonder what Palin is going to do. She sure does well standing on her own; Veep for someone? then President? That could seal the WH for 8-12 years but if Vice President then with whom?

Afterward, after the four years of international travel and such NO ONE could say she quit, was inexperienced, blah blah blah, Palin would be president and ( maybe Bachmann too I dunno) and the hippies wold run off to Mexico and join a cartel, and we could finally build a fence and shoot and sappers. But does this world have even that long? The world of islum wants their cake now.
