GOP megastar Sarah Palins bus tour rumbled toward the Hub last night, driving into a Republican Party furor as her headline-grabbing East Coast trip threatened to overshadow todays presidential announcement by party front-runner Mitt Romney.
She will certainly be in New Hampshire to rain on Mitts parade, wrote Massachusetts GOP spokesman Tim Buckley in an e-mail obtained by the Herald. Bay State GOP officials confirmed yesterday that Buckley wrote the e-mail, but said it was a private exchange and not an official communication.
I guess she blew in with the storm, sniffed state House minority leader Bradley H. Jones (R-North Reading) yesterday, a longtime Romney supporter. She may generate a lot of attention, but given the choice between seeing Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, Id much rather see Romney.
[snip]
It is becoming more and more clear to people that this is about Sarah and her brand and not a presidential campaign, said one Romney consultant, who added, Shes not making any friends within the political communities. If you cared about things like delegates and primaries, I think youd be a little more attentive.
Still, the rogue road trip put Palin back in the national spotlight, said Steve Duprey, a national Republican committeeman in New Hampshire whose wife volunteers for Romney but who said he is neutral in the race.
Simply by putting her family in a bus and touring around the country shes generating more media attention than most candidates, Duprey said. All the discussions before were about other candidates. Shes changed the conversation just by getting on a bus.
Meanwhile, Romney kept a relatively low profile yesterday, quietly tweeting last night: Big day tomorrow. Join my @livestream event as I announce my candidacy for President in New Hampshire.

You’re right. A lot of people love it (and her) and why it is going to be very instructive to see how her push meets the shove (or perhaps relenting hug) from the GOP “establishment.”
Far be it from me to tell you how to use your vote, but as Rush says, if there’s going to be a third party, it’ll be the GOP.
Make the liberal RINOs (HOW can a REAL Republican be elected governor of one of THE most left-wing Police/Nanny-states in America?) SQUIRM Sarah!
Romney's claim to fame is his business/economic prowess. Where was he in opposing Porkulus? Where was he in fighting TARP, the takeover of GM and Chrysler, screwing bondholders, dealers and tens of thousands of employees, while giving the UAW billions? Where were you, Mitt?
Where were you in opposing ObamaCare? Where was your economic analysis about how ObamaCare will destroy this country? Where were your critiques of the Obama economic policies?
Where were you, when Americans forming themselves into the Tea Party were smeared, demonized, insulted and lied about? Where were you Mitt in defending these Americans? Now you want OUR votes!!!
Where have you been? Where are you now? Your campaign is invisible. What makes you the front runner? Mitt, bubele, we all ready have a Zero as President. We can't afford another Zero. Mitt, go away, you've not earned our votes.
Spin on, Mitt.
Mitt's defense is that his plan is not like Obamacare...because it only covered one state, avoiding constitutional issues.
While it may not be unconstitutional, it was still a bad idea, destined to crash and burn. It was not going to work, and it would never work.
It's necessary that any candidate I support have a firm grasp of the obvious.
Fail, Mitt.
I agree 100%. If the Republicans don't get the message this year, then 1) they'll never get it, 2) the destruction of America is further along than anyone here hoped, and 3) it's time to cut bait with them and move on.
Personally, I'm done with the Republicans. I will not vote for someone for president just because he's got that "R" after his name. From here on out I'm voting for the person I want to be president, whether or not he/she has a chance of winning. I've been a sucker for the Republicans for 34 years. The only presidential candidate I've ever voted for with enthusiasm is Reagan. Bush Jr. was a distant second. And about the only thing I've gotten out of them in return has been a couple decent Supreme Court justices. I know that's really important and good, it's not enough. I'm just disgusted with the Republicans. Almost as much as the Democrats, and in some ways even more, since they should know better.
For better or worse, I'm going with Palin. In fact, if she doesn't run, I might just write her in anyway. And if I don't write her in, then I'm probably going with Cain. But I'm definitely NOT going with Romney, Pawlenty, or any other RINO.
ping...
I can live with that.
If the GOP does not back a true conservative they will lose to the worse President this Nation has ever had. And what would that say about them?
You are absolutely correct. I will donate to Sarah and/or Bachmann only. The RNC can stuff it. Obama will suffer the worse loss in the history of our country. $1 billion or $10 billion will no save him.
If the treasonous establishment republicans, and cross over democrats, put up anyone else I will not vote and let the chips fall where they may. We don’t need any more Romneys , McCains or Doles trying to tell us how to live our lives.
No less contradictory, I suppose, than his running for President as a conservative.
Talk about your obvious fag.
8^D
George went wobbly all on his own, learned nothing as VP for Reagan for 8 years.
Reagan's biggest mistake was his very first decision, picking Bush as his VP nominee. We've been paying for that disaster since 1989.
So, people, please stop blaming Perot. Reagan won in 1980 against Carter and against RINO John Anderson. 3rd parties only come about when the 2 parties ignore 200 million Americans.
You bring up a good point, with all these items to talk about and against, he has been silent essentially. Reagan after taking his licks in 76' still kept speaking and writing if my memory is correct. With so much at stake he has not been a vociferous for Liberty, Sarah has. Even guys that lost that are less than perfect like J.D. Hayworth, was and probably still has the bat and is swinging on a talk show in AZ. Where has Mitt been, on Meet the Press? Paleeezzzz....
They could hold their caucuses in a phone booth (if you can still find a phone booth, that is).
Romney certainly won't do that if elected. He will be a practical conservative and work hard to conserve everything that the Democrats have put in place. Actually most Republicans will do that. I have no hope that KenayCare will be repealed. The Republicans, even a lot of ones we think of as solid conservatives, will just tweak it here and there to "improve" things for certain constituencies and make a lot of noise about fairness, even use a lot of the same language the Democrats use. It is too valuable for political trading and vote buying. Republicans always accept Democrat faits accomplis.
It’s obvious that Piper is calling the shots all the way down to what kind of pizza to order with Donald Trump.
Jabba & Taildragger....I’m in agreement, Mitt is just like the typical GOP drone and energizes no-one but himself and the McCain perps. Sarah Palin is an individual force of nature and certainly has the instincts from a lifetime on the frontier...the whiny DC numbed statist are very similar to the cowardly Royalist who abandoned America for Canada after the 1st Revolution. Wonder if the statist will also leave after losing the coming revolution?
I would only support a third party if the purpose was to "Whig" the GOP.
I don't want to merely get their attention. If we are forced to build a third party it's because the GOP refuses to go where we as a country must, because they collectively decide to be part of the problem.
I hope this is part of Palin's calculation.
The level of corruption and self-serving in the party structure is obvious to any reasonable observer. Cleaning out a state party, as she undertook in Alaska, is one level of challenge. It may be impractical to impossible to attempt to do so on a national level with 50 separate structures.
A third party may be the only vehicle to get us where we want to go.
“I cannot see how America can survive another 4 years of Obama”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I don’t think America has “survived” the first two years of Obama and I see no way to endure the rest of his term without total chaos. As far as the four years from 2012 until 2016 I think it looks like disaster regardless of who leads and we certainly cannot stand another Obama term, it is out of the question.
I have no doubt we'll have the best running federal bureaucracy possible...which should give everyone pause.
