OKLAHOMA CITY - An emotional jury decided Thursday that pharmacist Jerome Jay Ersland is guilty of first-degree murder for fatally shooting a masked robber two years ago in an Oklahoma City drugstore.
Jurors recommended life in prison as punishment.
Two co-workers at Reliable Discount Pharmacy told jurors that Ersland was a hero who saved their lives on May 19, 2009.

Where have I written that you can’t kill him?
I said that you cannot summarily execute somebody.
That is the law of the land in all 50 states.
And where do you need to be an expert to sit 20 feet away, with a gun pointed at the mass of his body, ready to fire if he sits up?
I know the American education system may be about 38th in the world, but it can’t be so bad that you can’t tell the difference between a body in prone position and a body sitting up.
When dealing with crazy people who are robbing or attacking you, you don’t have time to verify who their mommy is, their pet dog’s name and if they had issues with their daddy. You unfortunately are faced with someone who is threatening you and not sure about how committed they are to killing you if you present a challenge to their goals. SO... you need to TAKE THEM OUT! Sorry for the weak-kneed sisters here, but that is what you have to do. No excuses... take the idiot out...eliminate the threat. Done.
You think that coddling a robber is conservative??? What planet are you on?
“...the only thing the law allows you to do, if hes down and out, is to get away.”
The law should be changed. It will save the taxpayers a great deal of money.
How many of the thugs the State of California is being forced to release now, on order of the SCOTUS, do you suspect fit the description you just supplied?
For your sake and your family’s sake, I hope you don’t live in California.
Agreed.
Sorry Jonty... you are so much from another planet than I.... I just can’t get my head around your reality.
It’s not about caring for the criminal. It’s about the law.
Just because he’s a criminal, does not give you the right to kill him when he can no longer harm you.
The justice system is supposed to exist so the individual person doesn’t get to decide how much harm he can inflict upon somebody. Do you really want to live in a society where you can kill somebody, because he didn’t say, “hello” or looked at you funny, because that is the society you seem to want.
That is the society that exists where blood feuds happen.
You know what Jonty.... When someone is threatening me or mine, I really don’t give a good rat’s ass about your law.
I want everyone killed.
I want EVERYONE KILLED!!!
What do you want???
What are you talking about? You really need to put down the Guiness for tonight.
I know what you guys are trying to say. You feel frustrated by a liberalized justice system, who is lax on criminals, for the specific purpose of providing defense lawyers a source of income and you guys are right to feel this way.
The problem is not being able to kill unconscious perps. The problem is an unbalanced justice system that doesn’t provide proper justice.
How is a person, who was likely put into a coma, when he took that bullet to the head, threatening you?
Holy Cow, You aren’t even a veteran are you.
Justice for who? The perp created the situation that caused the person accused of shooting him to be charged!!! The perp received justice for attempting the crime and getting killed. Enough said!
?????
How did anyone know... how do you know???? You are ridiculous.
That doesn’t mean you get to decide what is a proper punishment.
The pharmacist was accused of shooting an unconscious individual, which he was. Maybe the pharmacist should have aimed better, if he didn’t want to go before a judge.
You just don’t get it do you?
Seriously?!?
You cannot tell the difference between somebody who is lying down or sitting up?
If he’s lying down, as long as he’s lying down, he’s incapacitated.
I think if I had gone through an attack by someone I wouldn’t be checking the perps pulse and most likely want to put the final shots into them to be sure they were dead.... sorry, but your fantasy doesn’t work in real life.
