Dems rejoice over NY; will Medicare redo 2012?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jubilant Democrats demanded Republicans abandon their sweeping plans to remake Medicare on Wednesday after casting a House race in upstate New York as a referendum on the popular program and emerging victorious.

"The top three reasons for the election of a Democrat in one of the most conservative Republican districts in America are Medicare, Medicare and Medicare," declared New York Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the party's congressional campaign committee.

House Republicans made little if any attempt to demonstrate widespread support for their controversial proposal during the day. And the National Republican Congressional Committee offered no explanation for having let hundreds of thousands of dollars in Democratic-funded attacks on the proposed Medicare overhaul go unchallenged in its own television advertising.

One big difference between our upset this time around and their upset in May was the Dems only won by plurality. As I pointed out earlier on this thread at the time, a clear majority of NY-26 voters cast their ballots for a conservative candidate and didn't drink the RATs "Save medicare" kool-aid. They tried to claim the election results were a slap at John Boenher, even though only 44% of the voters supported the RAT candidate.

This time around, we won a clear majority -- 54% of NY-9 voters supported a pro-life, pro-traditional marriage conservative Catholic Republican for Chuckie Schumer's old seat. That's actually much better than I expected, if you asked me to predict a scenario where Turner wins a couple days ago, I would have predicted 48.5%-Turner, 47.5%-Weprin, 4%-Hoeppel. It's not spin to point out that a far stronger message than the 44% who voted Dem in a slight GOP district. It's safe to assume that nearly all the people who vote for the "tea party" candidate wanted a conservative. Without the fake tea party candidate, the Republican would have won handily in NY-26, with only 1% less than incumbent Chris Lee got in 2010.

Of course, Republicans would be relying on pure spin if they claimed Congressman Weiner's weiner played no part in a GOP upset in NY-9. But by the same token, Congressman Lee's lecherious behavior was certainly a favor in the RATs winning NY-26. I think the sudden exit of Lee and the fake "tea partier" conning 9% of voters played a much bigger factor than "medicare, medicare, medicare". NY-9 has tons of seniors too. What happened to the "medicare" advantage the RATs had in NY 4 monthes ago?

The media simply lies outright.

They LOST.

It was NOT A CONSERVATIVE DISTRICT.

Geez guys, how much worse can you get?

I hate the spin as well-no matter where it comes from. Spin is just a fancy word for lies.

The worst is from Blabbermouth-Schultz. She was critical of the Hasidim, basically saying (in veiled words, of course) that they were neanderthals and that voters (she means Jews) in HER district wouldn’t vote the same way. I guess basically she’s saying that her Jewish voters don’t give a whit about Israel or about politicians flashing their packages all over the net - and she’s probably absolutely right. Twit.

But it heartens me that in NY voters have shown that they are sick of sleazeballs and are going to punish the party that houses them. About time.

That's true. It's worth noting that Weners’s behavior was far more egregious than Lee's was. Sending a shirtless pic doesn't compare to sending a pantsless pic.

Hochul actually got 47% (still not a "mandate"), Corwin 42%, and Davis 9% in the final tabulation of votes in NY 26th.

That's too high for Hochul, almost 7 points better than the rat got against Lee in the 2008 election. But actually it's less that what "tea party" Jack Davis got as the democrat nominee in 2006 against Tom. Reynolds. That race was 52-48. So Hochul's "mandate" isn't eve the rat highwater mark in that district. While Turner's 53/54% in NY 9 is obviously the best we've done in NY-9.

There were a lot of factors in that race too just like this one. Effective mediscaring by the rats was one of them that aided Hochul along with obviously crappy GOP organization in NY but still Corwin (not terrible but not a stellar candidate and) wins if it's not for Jerk Davis.

GOP's Bob Turner, Democrat David Weprin Spar Over Medicare : "My opponent thinks the solution is to cut, cut, cut," said Weprin, a state Assemblyman

Hmmm. Seems the "winning" stragedy in NY-9 of screaming "medicare, medicare, medicare" doesn't work without a fake tea party candidate on the ballot. Aww, too bad Dems. Guess you'll need a new scare tactic for 2012! ;-)

>> Weprin unveiled hawkish Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.), the Democrats’ 2000 vice presidential nominee, as his most high-profile Jewish endorsement yet at a midday cash bash. <<

Have the freepers who supported this socialist douchebag ever expressed regret? Or do they just want to sweep it under the rug and hope everyone forgets that it was their "conservative" support for LIEberman that helped Harry Reid take the Senate?
