Obama 'disrespected' Israel, threw it 'under the bus,' says Romney By Michael O'Brien - 05/19/11 03:29 PM ET
President Obama "disrespected" Israel and threw it "under the bus" in a wide-ranging speech on the Middle East on Thursday, GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney charged.
Romney strongly criticized Obama, who, in a speech at the State Department, called for Israel to return to its border lines as drawn before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
"President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace," Romney said in a statement.
"He has also violated a first principle of American foreign policy, which is to stand firm by our friends," added the former Massachusetts governor.
Romney led Republicans in criticizing the Obama speech, which touched on broader themes throughout the Middle East, including the popular movements for democratization, from Egypt to Yemen, during the first half of the year.
"President Obama has betrayed Israel and made a grievous mistake by suggesting borders of Israel go back to pre-1967 borders. This is an outrage to peace, sovereignty of Israel, and a stable Middle East," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who's been a staunch supporter of Israel, said in a statement.
Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), meanwhile, suggested Obama's stance could represent "the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state."
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon, explaining that he hadn't yet been able to listen to the speech or digest its contents.
The political battle lines emerged quickly on Thursday afternoon after Obama's speech, especially after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the president's call for a return to 1967 borders.
Netanyahu will meet with Obama on Friday at the White House, and he'll stay in Washington over the weekend before addressing the AIPAC conference Monday and a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday.
No, he'd be putting airheaded dipwads who think they're going to rule on another planet and become a God...and then rescue the world from alien invasion. He's programmed and will do all the leadership of his "kind" tell him to do....He's a robot in others hands.
Sounds good, but what are the chances that a conservative black man will be elected? Sigh! I don’t see him as a real possibility.
I’m not a mormon but I recognize an anti-mormon zealot when I see it. That is no reason to keep a marxist in the white house.
You need to figure out whether you are a constitutional conservative or an idiot. Right now you are NOT a constitutional conservative.
“I hope Congress gives Bibi a standing ovation before, during, and after his address.”
The majority (R’s) of the House will. The Senate? Hopefully, all the Repubs (at least) will.
As many as possible must send a message to the American public - and b. hussein obama.
“Netanyahu should understand zero no longer speaks for Americans”
I think he does, but he also realizes the power BHO, his minions and supporters in Congress wield.
He may wonder, though, why we’re not rising up in more protest or action against our evil leadership.
“He has disrespected Israel”
MUST we use the ghetto slang, Mitt? Real grownups use “treated Israel with disrespect [or disrespectfully].”
Sheesh..
Daaaaamn! Romney done said 0bama dissed the Izzyalites fo shizzle! He done catchered my vote in da pry-mary.
(”Hey, Mitt... be yourself. Don’t try to sound like some MTV douchenozzle. It isn’t presidential.)
You can bring in the old tactics of ‘anti-mormon crap’ all you want...it doesn't take away from the fact of who Romney is and his point of reference.. in all decisions which he makes...which is why he waffles and flip-flops at the turn of any hat that tips his way. He's a RHINO and will sell us out in a heartbeat to the highest bidder. He's a dog and a full fledged traitor....'deception' is his game and that will not change.
Your bigotry blinds you to what is truly killing this Republic.
I left my last post incomplete.
It won’t matter because I oppose Romney, too, and he won’t get the nomination.
We needn’t fight. OK?
It will never happen... This so-called "arab spring" is an orchestrated event designed to move the middle east to an Iran dominated caliphate. Think about it... Which of the arab countries did Obama NOT at least speak out in favor of the protestors? Iran, and their puppet, Syria. It seems that the arab countries where Obama is in favor of the revolts were either somewhat inclined to work with the US, or relatively secular.
I think Obama, while not muslim, was brought up with muslim teachings, is trying to do his own "caliphate building."
Mark
Well he's not the only one! I do wonder what it will take and I'm afraid another hit on our country would be necessary....you know.."Wake the Sleeping Giant" sort of wake-up call.
Meanwhile the enemy slithers over every boundary of our states and our constitution once stood for...and...fills the offices of power and influence. A 'war' few care to see or know how to fight.
They said this "war" would not be won in the US by bullits from a gun...rather thru our government and laws...so far it's working and they are winning.
Additionally the internet is more and more being hacked by those who would not have us know the truth...videos which would be insightful or hacked "no access" one after the other etc.....More and more control is being shaped and shifted...and it's not going to stop until all is in place.
I can only hope and pray BIBI will stand against all that he now faces and knows that the American people do not oppose him nor Israel.
Tou gotta believe if anyone has the goods on Obama, knows the truth about Obama, it’s the Israelis.
Look for Netanyahu to tell him the facts of life in their private meeting. If Obama fails to reverse course, info will begin to surface that will confirm all the suspected wrong-doings, illegal and corrupt activities of this administration.
Hey Obama... you don’t tell someone to go to hell unless you can put him there. My money is on Bibi and Israel.
Mike Savage just said American Jews voted 82% for Obama and that he doesn’t expect that percentage to significantly decrease despite Zero’s abandonment of Israel. They just can’t bring themselves to vote for a Republican, said Savage.
None dare call it treason.
Newt said he declined to comment on Zero’s speech because he hadn’t heard/read it.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon,”
Newt has gone so far to the left that he might actually agree with Obama. Newt was quick enough to throw harsh words at Tea Party candidates, quick to throw harsh words at Paul Ryan, but ask him to comment on something as outrageous as this when it concerns Obama and Newt suddenly gets shy. One MORE reason Newt is NOT the man for the job!
In this instance, Romney used an apt term, whether it was his full intention or not.
Obama often displays the instincts of a street thug. “I won, you lost.” “They’ll (Republicans) have to get in the back of the bus.” Returning the Winston Churchill bust, and numerous, in-your-face statements that sound more like a street thug than a president of the US.
And his one-upmanship and attempt to undercut Netanyahu with this speech, the day before Netanyah is to arrive in the US, is just more example of Obama acting on his street thug instincts instead of acting diplomatically and like a president of the US.
Obama ‘dissed’ Netanyahu today and Romney described Obama’s behavior accurately.
"President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace," Romney said in a statement.Israel can't negotiate peace because there's no one with whom to negotiate. Israel's evolving response is to insist on preconditions, just as the koranimals. They should also remind everyone that no progress has been made as a consequence of the three no's of the Khartoum declaration of 1967:
