Realizing that the UN'S even considering this is because the Palestianians bypassed the peace talks with Israel all together... and went straight to the UN for recognition. No matter how we see the UN the Middle East will use them to their advantage. What a mess this is going to unfold!

What I hear in this speech is:
A) Israel is an occupier and needs to back down.
B) We are funding a muslim initiative against Israel.
C) The door is open to calling ourselves occupiers of the Mexican territory by using this same logic that is being applied to Israel. Look for us to “set a good example to Israel and the world.”
D) We are allies of Islam now. Come on in (quietly and unofficially of course so the real Americans don’t notice until it is too late) and enjoy our resources.

I have called my congressman and asked for immediate and vocal action against this speech. I hope the official phone lines get overrun by these types of calls.
Bibi Netanyahu needs to start getting VERY cozy with Great Britain. They have a neat tendency to invent the technologies that America uses, and it isn’t clear that they hate Israel like Obama does.
In his speech he gave he said the UNITED STATES believes in the 67 border...pardon me barry do not speak for me.!!!!
Go listen yourself. I transcribed the relevant part earlier up the thread somewhere. He very clearly pauses for a second, and emphasizes ‘by itself’. It was obvious that he felt strongly about that part. His inflection increased from his normal sing-song cadence to a quite serious tone.
CNN picked up on it, while Fox was chasing a Tylenol poisoning scare from 1982.
Nevertheless, the president and the prime minister will have much to discuss. Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy is being driven by the impending vote in September by the UN General Assembly on recognizing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 border. A vote in the General Assembly would not reduce the need for a negotiated agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, but the move could have far-reaching political implications by providing a basis to consider sanctions against Israel.
I have no doubt BiBi will mention the 1967 borders in his speech to Congress. The real issue is what conditions he will attach to it. I am fairly sure one will be that Hamas must get out of the Palistinian government, which will be a dealbreaker all by itself.
I would have to reread Obama's speech to see if he has put Israel between a rock and hard place come September in the UN. We all know the General Assembly will recognize a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. BiBi's speech before Congress will give us an indication of where he stands on all of this.
I assume--maybe hope is a better word--that Obama's speech was vetted with Israel to get their reaction before he delivered it. With allies, we usually do that so that there are no surprises and we can anticipate what issues might arise and respond to them afterwards.
