Television's most popular comedy "Two and Half Men" will return to air this fall with actor Ashton Kutcher filling the void left by Charlie Sheen, the companies behind the show said on Friday.
CBS Corp., which airs the show, and Warner Bros., the Time Warner Inc. unit that makes it, said production of the ninth season would begin this summer, with Mr. Kutcher taking a new starring role in the show.
The announcement, confirming reports from Thursday night, removes a big question mark that has hovered over the hit show since Mr. Sheen was fired in early March. Both companies have been working since then to save the profitable program.
Mr. Kutcher won't directly replace Mr. Sheen. Instead, Chuck Lorre, the show's co-creator, has been working on plans that would add a new character to the show, rather than recasting the role that has been played by Mr. Sheen, people familiar with the matter said earlier this week.
"I can't replace Charlie Sheen but I'm going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people," Mr. Kutcher said in a statement accompanying the companies' announcement.

Charlie did have some comedic chops, even going back to the Hot Shot movies, which also had Mr. Cryer in them.

Totally. Charlie Sheen is THE SHOW.

They found another half-man to take Charlie’s spot on the show...

Don’t know about Charlie, but this is #winning. A steady job, with multi-year potential is hard to come by these days for actors

Sheen and Cryer had good chemistry, that’s what will be missed.

Might as well have used the “add a kid” formula.

Smart move. It will make a whole different show. They could replace everybody as long as they keep the housecleaner. She's hilarious.
