MINNEAPOLIS, (AP) -- Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew says he will no longer fight esophageal cancer and is settling in for the final days of his life.

I grew up listening to and watching Harmon Killebrew play ball as a Minnesota Twin and then go on to announce games.
One of the nicest guys to ever swing a baseball bat.
A Prayer for a peaceful passing and comfort to the family and friends.

I remember, as a kid, a pic of Killebrew on the back page of the Daily News. It showed him doing a split at first base to reach a low throw. Absolutely amazing..he looked like a ballet dancer..was completely flush with the ground....wonder how to find it..it has to be on-line somewheres.
He is obviously at peace...I will pray for him..

See you on the other side, Harmon.
I know you will be playing on a beautiful field. Hope to see you one day.

I saw him in old Griffith Stadium in DC when I was a kid. He could hit the ball - it just kept going and going.

Sad. I must’ve been about four years old when my dad bought me my first pack of baseball cards. Killebrew was on top, right there under the bubblegum. One of my very earliest memories.

What a great gentleman. A throwback to a different era. My boyhood hero, and one of the greatest ever to play the game. This is hard.

These are the kind of people that you really want to meet. They give the good fight and accept their fate as adults and don’t whine or blame others or look for handouts. A lot to learn about this man simply by his attitude as he is about to be lifted up. God Bless this man and his family.

And the pool of professional athletes with real class is soon to shrink by one.
Hope his passing is peaceful and gentle.

Prayers for Harmon Killebrew and his family.
I sure remember those Twins teams from when I was a boy: Killebrew, Carew, Tony Oliva, Bert Blyleven...what great memories.

As I recall, he did that in an All-Star game, and injured himself in the process.
He was one of my boyhood heroes.
