The Candidates...
Gary Johnson
Johnson served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2002. He founded what would become one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico. He has competed in several triathlons and climbed Mount Everest.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. Hes an obstetrician-gynecologist and was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty served two terms as governor of Minnesota, from 2002 to 2010. He served in the Minnesota House from 1992 until 2002. He is the son of a truck driver.
It seemed Romney really hurt himself by standing up the people there in Greenville tonight. Seemed arrogant by his absence, and some there seemed sort of po’ed frankly.
I think he just dropped out of the top five by not being there.
Such a shame. /s
Mittens doesn’t and will never have enough money to buy SC.
Yes, Cain came across as the real person.
Howard Kurtz says Pawlenty drew the toughest questions. Guess Fox thinks he’s the only one with half a chance.
I think there’s merit in having smaller debates as opposed to a crowd of, say, twelve, and you’re lucky to get five minutes of short answers from each candidate, making it very difficult to get a good overall impression of each candidate on the pertinent issues.
So a second group of five could include Bachmann, Romney, Gingrich, etc... then another group of five to include Palin, Huckabee, etc.
Just a thought.
Great summary of that question and the answers!!!
Cain’s role is to soak up all the conservative oxygen in the race so that nobody to the right of Daniels and Romney can get any momentum. Looks like he will succeed.
He has no chance to be the nominee. But I doubt his supporters would be dissuaded by that reality.
“Pauls gang is there hollering,, stupid.they ought topull them out!”
They also stacked the deck on the live postings right below the video. Overall, it was not a good night for the GOP. Paulbots may be fervent in their support, but come primary time, he’s history.
Paul, the guaranteed NO vote on everything (many very good, some very bad)
Cain, too much textbook management BS, otherwise he avoided being a political weasel.
Pawlenty, got his candidacy capped by his own cap and trade history
Santorum, sanctimonious trying to convince us he is the most conservative and can win elections, uh Arlen Specter support and 2006 election.
The other guy, a Jerry Brown kumbaya kinda guy.
The presence of Trump, Romney, Gingrich, and Huckabee may have livened it up a bit but, the event still would have been a loser, because those guys are losers too.
Time for Palin or Bachmann to ride in on the white horse.
this is going to be a pretty boring debate.
Palin/West 2012!
He did not win the election (Clinton did), but the cancer came back and Tsongas died two days before the end of Clinton's first term.

Pawlenty won’t get the nomination but we could do a lot worse....like Donald Trump or Mitt Romney.
Oh dear...Jesse is really kind of pitiful these days. VP? For who, Alex Jones? ;)
I have issues with Ron Paul - I couldn’t vote for him for president- but I really like that he brings certain things up like the Fed, liberty and free markets. I found myself agreeing with him a lot. Also disagreeing a lot!
Johnson is quirky- but very interesting and thoughtful. I guess my libertarian streak liked him while I don’t agree with all of his or Paul’s views.
Pawlenty may be a nice fellow, but to me he is a caricature of everything I’ve come to dislike about politicians and I couldn’t take him seriously. He and Santorum are political creatures- somehow I expect Karl Rove to be hovering in the background behind these two..
Paul - Same old quack, different year. And I REALLY disliked the panel trying to label him the “father of the Tea Party”
Cain - FAR more electable that I had previously thought.
Pawlenty - Wimpy RINO with no shot.
Santorum - Much stronger than I had thought.
Johnson - WTF is a Democrat doing running in the Republican primary?
that's my personal opinion.
Thanks!
He should have been there - any candidate that’s dipped their toe in should have shown up. Of the declared candidates I think only Romney, Gingrich and Romer were missing. But nobody takes Buddy Romer seriously as a candidate.
Now be fair, Paul did vote YES on something- Nancy Pelosi's tax hike bill back in December (November?)
My mother just called and said she loves Santorum but she realizes he could never win. She also liked Cain and found Paul amusing.
I’m not hanging my hat totally on anyone at this point because it’s simply to early in the game. If I had to cast my vote based on this group tonight Cain would get my vote.
While I’m a big fan of Herman’s and I’d love to see him win it, I don’t think he has the name recognition and I think he has a tough row to hoe in front of him. I think he’d make a great VP choice for Sarah, though.
“Cain did well. Cain/West. It is still not too late West/Cain 2012”
West is eons above Cain, but I don’t believe he has any plans to run. Plus, you know all parties want what they call a balanced ticket (wink wink).
