Did 'dead' courier betray Osama bin Laden? The White House story doesn't add up
Telegraph ^ | 5/3/11 | Toby Harnden

Posted on 05/03/2011 7:07:59 PM PDT by Nachum

There’s a lot about the White House’s account that doesn’t quite add up. I’m not just talking about the changing story that led spokesman Jay Carney to admit: “Even I’m getting confused”. The erroneous details that Osama bin Laden was armed (he wasn’t), that his wife was used as a human shield (she wasn’t), that his wife was killed (she wasn’t) can be put down to over-egging the pudding or, if you’re feeling generous, the fog of war.

What I’m talking about is the bigger picture of how bin Laden was discovered and who was killed in that compound. Don’t worry, I’m not a “Deather”. It seems incontrovertible that bin Laden is indeed sleeping with the fishes. But what about the others - the Sheikh Abu Ahmed, also known as Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti – his brother, bin Laden’s son Hamza and bin Laden’s wife?

This is just a hunch but it seems to me that a plausible conclusion to be drawn from the confusing and opaque mass of detail is that Abu Ahmed, his brother or bin Laden’s own son betrayed him and is currently being given a new identity as he prepares to collect the $27 million reward for the al-Qaeda leader’s scalp.

People that want to sing a one-line chorus in a circle jerk ought to join DU or the DailyKos. They have that down to a science.

Thank you. FR has always been about critical thinking and analysis among other things. Here are some questions and thoughts for those that aren't afraid of them.

3. Why has the Obama administration said virtually nothing about the other dead?

The versions of this story that I have read all have said that Osama's 18 yr old son was killed and his body was evaced with Osama's. Wasn't he a good enough Muslim to get a holy bath, a shroud and a swim with the sharks?

5. The notion that the Pakistani government, or an important element of it, did not know about the raid strains credulity. Why send in helicopters, across Pakistani airspace and spend 38 minutes on the ground with the very real risk that Pakistani forces might suspect a terrorist attack and come and check it out? A highly possible outcome of such recklessness would be a firefight between SEALs and Pakistani troops or police.

Aside from questions of Paki involvement and/or assistance in the raid that question brings up a major risk 0bummer took and I don't mean to his political well being. Being on the ground for nearly 40 minutes with hundreds of Paki soldiers within a mile or less risked a huge firefight. Losing our men in such a fight would have been terrible.

But forty Navy SEALs with one attack helo and two Chinooks, undoubtedly armed with some of the most terrifying machine guns ever made, could have killed a hundred Paki soldiers, or two or three hundred, in a matter of minutes. Consider the ramifications of that. I'm not saying the op shouldn't have been done. I'm just saying it wasn't just 0bowdown's career on the line and it's also a thought as to how likely there was or was not Paki assistance.

6. Why a helicopter assault and not a missile strike?

That question is easy. There are two good reasons it wasn't a good idea. One; no Osama body to ID so no way to confirm his death. Two; consider the ramifications of a missile strike in the middle of a Paki town with several major Paki army installations on all sides. What would it look like the target was? Especially with no Osama body left. If there was one would the Pakis ID it and say "no problems. they only wanted bin Laden?"

Powerful simplicity. This issue isn’t going away until:

1. The actual birth certificate is actually shown to the public or to Joe Farah himself.

2. Our interpretation of Vattel is utterly discredited.

3. Obama proves he was never a citizen of Indonesia, since that was the nation’s policy.

If any of those problems are resolved before the 2012 election, I suspect it would only be in combination with an Obama resignation.

Silly me for thinking we are a nation of laws. I realize a lot of Americans are in revenge mode and are caught up in the hoopla at the moment. Maybe when the celebration is over and they sober up they too will ask some serious questions, such as: Why did they execute an outnumbered, unarmed suspect (at this point isn’t he stiil considered a supect since he hasn’t been found guilty of any offense?) whose identity they didn’t 100% know? They could have very easily shot the wrong man.

LOL You're probably right about that. May it be so!

I’m all for raiding nations that harbor terrorists whether they know it or not. The two-faced diplomacy of Pakistan is impossible to fathom without high level clearance.

And, we don’t know if this was a black-ops. There might have been a contingency for all of those heroes to have been “acting rogue” if things went sour, in “defiance of orders”, such as “overzealous interpretation of their mission”. Could have been ready to make an officer the fall guy. Not unheard of during democrat administrations.
Tortured POWs made to confess are easily discredited. Hurts morale, but what does a democrat care?

That contingency could easily have been purged after the fact.

All true. But I’m beginning to lean towards the idea that we had Paki assistance. I read that someone saw a BBC news report that neighbors were told to stay inside and keep their lights off just before the raid.

“People that want to sing a one-line chorus in a circle jerk ought to join DU or the DailyKos.” Or the RNC website. They can just nod their heads as they read.

But regarding certifigate, I agree with your tagline:

(Who crashed the markets on 9/15/08 and why?)

The economy and gas prices are winning issues for us. They are a sure thing while RINOs and pro-establishment types will never let us unite around the hardesty-hitting truths.

Funny thing — it’s our fellow ‘conservatives’ who keep me riled up about certifigate. Focus-focus-focus freaks make me dig my heels on the certifigate issue. Every time I hear Beck mouth off without any research to counter us, it makes me want to get on the forum and hammer the facts all over again. I like Beck; I like Mark Steyn; I sometimes even smile when hearing Boortz [though less and less]. But if they want to pick a fight with us without any facts to back them up, are we going to shut up? HECK NO! They throw gasoline on the fire.

I wouldn’t be surprised about two-faced Pak diplomacy. That’s their SOP.

They could have very easily shot the wrong man.

Until I see a picture I don't believe they killed Osama Obama Bin Lauden.

The rest of your statement I disagree.

I know what you mean. None of those talking heads could debate any number of us without looking like complete fools. I like Beck and Levin too but ridicule and hanging up on people isn’t debate and it’s juvenile.

It sure is. They are fractured and it runs right through their government and military. That is why this op carried such a great risk, as I mentioned before, and even though it went very well the danger of an explosion of those divisions still exists. That is why Hillary has been out there trying to blunt the potential effects of it and mend fences while other politicians are giving Pakistan hell about it.

” consider the ramifications of a missile strike in the middle of a Paki town with several major Paki army installations on all sides. What would it look like the target was? Especially with no Osama body left.”

I keep saying that to others. To me this is where the media is very misleading. They talk about this great decision, when weighed in these terms is pretty clear cut.

I am glad someone else has noticed that. It took me a day to clear the initial impact of the news from my mind to think about it in broader terms. I think I heard one or two Fox military analysts mention some of the potential blowback this might have but they didn't really flesh it out with just how badly it might have gone if a firefight with the Pakis had occurred.

I’m glad there is a variety of choices for news consumers.
To not suffer fools well can be a form of wisdom. We each have our level of understanding.

Oh, now I see where you are coming from. I have heard a lot of people I assume to be FReepers given the brush-off on talk radio. There is an intellectual cowardice that fears an informed caller. I sometimes hear informed leftists get cut off too. But the thing is that people can get online and mention it to their friends. The tactic of ducking callers won’t last much longer I think.

Who cares think what you want. I don't believe this bull either. Osama has been dead for years. Show me the pictures and I will then believe.
