Since there does not appear to be another live thread for the Canadian General Election, I'm starting this one.

I will assume Canada faces the same set of problems which the US does: bigger government, financial disaster, spend thrift social programs.

East Canada polls have closed, it looks like both the Conservatives and the NDP may pick up some seats at the expense of the Liberals. FYI for Americans, “Tories” are big-C Conservatives, “Grits” are Liberals, and “Dippers” are NDP if you’re wondering about nicknames.

Actually, they have a strong stable dollar, steady and appreciating property values and adult leadership.

Let’s hope the Conservatives finally get their majority.
Can’t see the public trusting Jack “Massage Parlour” Layton.

"I will assume Canada faces the same set of problems which the US does: bigger government, financial disaster, spend thrift social programs." But with a difference....Harper's been slashing taxes, they already have more people working than at the beginning of the recession. They are the first country to ACTUALLY recover.

My relatives North of Toronto can receive 680 AM News. They state that ALL of the AM news readers are obvious far far LEFT wing zealots. The "female" news readers are overbearing and frequently bully their "male" counterparts who all seem to speak with a high-pitched lisp.
680 AM NEWS are openly cheering for the socialists ... the NDP and Jack Layton.

Let’s hope that nightmare fuel got a few more voters fired up, then. Don’t expect big gains in the Maritimes, but the Liberals might lose some seats to the Dippers in Newfoundland and the Tories hold some pretty safe seats in other areas of the Atlantic provinces. Nova Scotia has been getting their bellyful of a tax-and-spend crazy NDP government, so they might react in the opposite direction this year. New Brunswick and PEI are still too early to tell.

The last Canadian election (2008) is when I first heard of a "Tweet." I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought the Canucks were on the sauce or something. I mean "tweets?" "tweeters?" I thought it was some variation on "Twits" and Twittering".
Is CSPAN covering "the ridings?"

CBC just got in a bit of trouble for prematurely showing election results. Elections Canada takes a very dim view of this. Watching the live streaming election coverage of Sun TV now. They won’t be reporting actual results until a little later.

They have a lot more oil than we do, probably even more undiscovered, and there banking system is much more stable than our own.

It’s even an illegal, and finable offense, for Canadians to tweet early election results.

Maritimes? That’s pretty kick-ass for the maritimes, isn’t it?

I was in Canada once on election day and I was amazed at how quickly they were able to count and tabulate the results and know which party had what number of seats in the parliament. Of course they don’t have the Democratic Party needing delays and confusion in order to steal elections.
