Republican primary voters at this early stage of the game now give billionaire developer Donald Trump the edge over presumptive favorites Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee in the race to be the GOPs presidential nominee in 2012.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Trump with 19% support, just ahead of the former governors, Massachusetts Romney at 17% and Arkansas Huckabee with 15%. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich are tied for fourth place with nine percent (9%) each, closely followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at eight percent (8%). Rounding out the list are former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (5%) and Mitch Daniels, the current governor of Indiana, at three percent (3%). Five percent (5%) like some other candidate, and 11% are undecided when presented with this list of candidates.

And who would that be????
Well, Trump is actually my favorite in this list of candidates I don’t want.
“Well, Trump is actually my favorite in this list of candidates I dont want.”
Oops. Reading the whole list, there is one I do support.
Trump in my opinion has no true political passions. He’ll play either side of the fence. He’s contributed to the campaigns of Kennedy, Schumer, Kerry, and Harry Reid. He’d be a sure loss for the Republicans if nominated. He’s toxic for the country as a politician. I find it embarrassing as a Republican that he’s polling as well as he is. His motivation in my opinion is not: what can I do for my country, It’s how far can I rise in this world, damn every thing else. He is our Al Sharpton.
In 2007 Giuliani was leading the pack with roughly 30%.
No to all of these. I'd like to see Rep West on the ticket before any of these rinos.
Cain would be great. I’d take him anyday.
I’ve said it before....this electorate is absolutely, positively, 110% primed and ready for an outbreak of populism
I largely agree with that. But, I don't think a populist can win the GOP primary, nor do I think there's a Dem populist who could come even remotely close to unseating Obama in their primary. So, that leaves the (I think) very real possibility of a 3rd-party populist candidate, like Trump.
Of course, that would spell absolute doom for whatever GOP candidate secures the nomination, and would guarantee Obama's victory in Reagan/Mondale-like fashion. I also think that such a 3rd-Party national ticket candidacy would make it a little tougher for the GOP to take back the Senate, if for no other reason than Obama would probably enjoy some strong coattails in that kind of situation.
Up-ticket success does much for the same party candidates down-ticket, generally.
Everyone was worried about a New York billionaire named Bloomberg running on a 3rd-Party ticket. It looks like they got the bank account and city right, but the name wrong.
Nevertheless, I will not vote for Gungrabber Romney, Suckabee, or the Grinch Who Loved Pelosi.
No, even if it means Obama resumes his kingship.
Last night on Hannity, West stated that he could be persuaded to run or at least considered being VP for the chosen GOP candidate.
ROTFL!!!
I believe Sarah is staying safely under the FEC radar until the right moment. There are plenty of signals in the Palin Underground that the machine is rolling ... be patient.
