Psalm 103
1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

7He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

8The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

9He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

14For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

15As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

16For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

17But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

18To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

19The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

20Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

21Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.

22Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.

I thought I was the only one on the planet who had ever read Run, Baby, Run.

I noticed the difference between the comic book and long book version, in the retelling of his arrival in New York, when he hands the server at the diner a $10 bill (this was back in the 50's, remember, when $10 was non-trivial) and got a single chili and a hot dog.

In the book, he recalls, "I'd just had my first experience with American Enterprise."

In the comic version, it reads, "I'd just had my first experience with 'being had, New York-style' "...

Cheers!

While I rejoice for David, who is with Jesus and is enjoying the glory of Heaven, my heart grieves for his family and especially Gwen. I will miss David’s daily devotional and his sermons. He has had a profound effect on me.

I was saved and baptized at his church and attended there for many years. For many years he preached the gospel strongly, giving both the “bad news” of our sinfulness and the eternal penalty we were under for it, and the good news of God's great mercy, love and grace towards us and Christ's atoning sacrifice for our sins.

I will always remember his great courage in standing up for the truth of God's word (at great cost to his popularity in Pentecostal/Charismatic circles) against the flood of false doctrines (such as “Holy Laughter” and “Prosperity Gospel”) that were overwhelming that branch of Christianity.

His message, “The Reproach of the Solemn Assembly” was probably one of the most important sermons of the latter part of the 20th Century. That (unpopular) sermon and many others like it by Pastor David and his colleagues at Times Square Church undoubtedly rescued a great number of Christians from being deceived into following false teachings that could shipwreck their faith. More importantly, the messages were faithful to and glorified God.

http://churchwarnings.blogspot.com/2008/09/reproach-of-solemn-assembly-by-david.html (I endorse the sermon here, but have not researched the soundness of this website)

In his later years, I felt some of his teachings and a few associations were off doctrinally and not up to the quality of his earlier ones, but on the whole, he made a huge impact for good in my life, in the world and in the Church.

Thank you for those insights...He was such a father of the faith. We have lost a giant, and Heaven has gained a faithful servant.

Thanks much for the Ping Quix. A very sad day for the Body of Christ...I think you are right that this foretells the lateness of the HOUR.

Many prayers for his wife & family. What an amazing father of the faith we have lost.

God bless.

You aren’t the only one who has read “Run, Baby, Run”. I read it many years ago but do not remember much about it now just ahout Nicky Cruz had wrote it... We were young once!
