I am sorry for your loss of your 16 year old son. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Yes the devotional was deeply comforting to me as well. It is the light to be carried in hearts as the very bright one of David’s is now with the Lord.

Our church library had two comic books, Tom Landry and The Dallas Cowboys and The Cross and The Switchblade. That led me to read Run Baby Run by Nicky Cruz. At that age the message I took from it was Christianity could be for anybody, not just the sanitized robots I mostly witnessed in church. I was in some kind of trouble from my first memory on so it was an important lesson. David Wilkerson and Nicky Cruz are names I’ll never forget.

Rather than going through a long explanation, I’ll refer you to a website.

He’s not your typical megachurch guy. He was a small pastor called to minister to NYC, and his emphasis was always personal holiness and being sold out to God. He tells his story in The Cross and the Switchblade, where he went to the ghetto and ministered to gang leaders.

Haven’t thought of Dave Wilkerson in a long time. Last attended one of his rallies 40+ years ago. Peace and blessings on the family.

He seemed an uncommonly godly man. I’m sad to hear of his death, but I’m sure of the fate that awaits him in Christ Jesus!

May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. A long and strenuous life has completed its assigned course.

A truly humble servant taken home.
Next to my dad, I revered Dave Wilkerson the most, as a humble, godly man. Dave Wilkerson was always simply trying to obey Christ, minister to the body of Christ as well as the lost and call Sin - Sin. How many newsletters would say what they had to say, and from a practical standpoint, never manipulate people into financial support, just that the ministry had needs (REAL needs) and that God was faithful to supply. He left the 'glory' of the limelight many years ago (compared to Swaggert and Baker) and heeded the Lord's call back to New York City where he started and open Times Square Church to minister to everyone in the middle of the pit.
I also thought last week if the Lord would be taking his servants home soon before things really go foul in the next few years. Next, Billy Graham.
