Father’s race on the Obama birth certificate: only a curiosity or a smoking gun?
Canada Free Press ^ | April 26, 2011 | Lawrence Sellin

Nevertheless, there is one thing that I don’t quite understand.

On the Certification of Live Birth (COLB), now widely available on the internet, Obama’s father’s race is listed as “African”.

(snip)

For the sake of argument, let’s say that the terminology is peculiar to Hawaii and Obama filed a Late Certificate of Birth or perhaps his documents were updated in recent years.

In that case, the publicly available COLB must reflect what is written on the source birth documents, even updated ones.

In Appendix B “Hawaii Model – Standard for Clustering Race/Ethnicity Categories” contained in an article published in 2003 by employees of the Hawaii Department of Health, the word “African” appears as an “Aggregated Ethnic Group” under the race category “Black (non-Hispanic)”. That differs from the categories in Appendix A, which apparently represented an earlier version and did not contain the word “African”.

Unless I am mistaken, that information might suggest that Barack Obama’s birth data were updated around 2003 or thereafter.

We've been over this a gazillion times. The terms African, Negro, black, etc. have been used since the foundations of the Republic.

There's no particular reason for that, but "white" and "Caucasion" have also been in use, and they'll use that term "Caucasion" even if none of your ancestors came from anywhere near the Caucasus mountains.

In areas where "colored" was common they wouldn't use "Cauc" on a dare!

It's been fairly recently that the government started imposing standard versions on everyone ~ they've dropped that Caucasion thing entirely ~ anyone notice? You'all "white" now.

I've noticed in early census documents many of the census takers carefully differentiated between "white" and "nonwhite" and "colored" even though only "white" and "Negro" or "black" were authorized. To some degree native white census takers were obviously describing recent immigrants as "colored", even if they were obviously German speaking people.

Hawaii is special. Everybody of every kind more or less lives there. They even use special terms for white folk

I guess you don’t get it.

The link in the article identifies a timeline for when Obama’s birth data might have been altered.

After working 38 years cheek to jowl with about 1/4 million African-Americans all over the country, let me say this about that ~ he looks nothing like Malcolm X.

His coloration is wrong; his head is wrong; his jaw is wrong; his teeth are wrong; his eyesockets are wrong; and they don't even have the same width forehead.

Obama most looks like his Grandfather Dunham.

Doesn't matter ~ we went through a period in the 1980s where everybody loved to go around and bring up all the Old Classifications up to date.

I went from "Caucasion" to "non hispanic white" in the evaluation applied to federal employees about 1980.

The electronic records from which all personnel information is drawn carried that identification forward to the present time.

Someday they'll decide I was actually of generally North Western Europe non-Hispanic green eyed white boy stock, and that'll be put in the system and nobody will know I used to be "Caucasion".

There's nothing in this re-classification stuff ~ it just is.

Best explanation for "African" showing up is he wasn't born in Kenya, and neither was his baby-daddy, or his grandmother in Africa, or his aunts, uncles, cousins or whatever UP TO THAT TIME.

Although Mombasa is today part of Kenya that didn't happen until 1963. Before that it was the Capital of the Protectorate of Kenya and itself was called British East Africa Protectorate ~ and had its own independent civil records administration.

Whether he was born in Africa or Hawaii or Canada or Kansas City or wherever, I guarantee NOBODY working in civil registration of births would figure that one out ~ except for one place ~ in Mombasa where all these people are from.

The fact it says AFRICA for his supposed baby-daddy probably proves he wasn't born in Africa ~ neither in Kenya nor in Mombasa!

That is the most revealing transformation I have ever seen. He’s a spitting image. If that’s not father and son I’d be surprised.

Given the knee-jerk responses on this thread, it is no wonder the main stream media have such an easy time dismissing birthers as the lunatic fringe.

A little reading and thinking might help before writing or speaking. Ranting is not a substitute for reasoned argument.

In that respect, but with some exceptions, birther deserve to lose and they deserve Obama.

Better update your history of the Luo tribe from which O came. It goes back to Arab.

The two images are quite different. You get the same effect morphing almost any two faces. Notice, though, the morph cuts a full inch off the height of the lower jaw.

Obama has the Dunham family jaw!

Wasn't that around the time he said in a debate, when an opponent said he wasn't born in this country, “So what, It's not like I am running for president” or something to that effect? Also newspaper articles about Kenyan born being elected to the state senate?

The Luo are not Arabs. They are Nilotic.

They say that except for skin color and hair texture, Obama is the image of his grandfather.

The LUO, like all other East Africans have ancestors that came from all over the East Indian littoral ~ from way down Souf' in Sud Afrika nigh onto Java in Indonesia.

People have had sailing down to a tea in that region for thousands of years.

Light skin doesn't last there. Dark skin survives well, and the further South you get to the Equator, the darker the better.

It's hypothesized it's a skin cancer prevention syndrome ~ Arabs, however, are descended from populations that arose in the Arabian peninsula as well as Armenian type people who lived around/near the Black Sea. ~

That you have black African Luo with Nilotic origins living in the same place (Mombasa, Tanzania, Kenya) as far lighter Arabs and Jews and Englishmen is no more surprising than the fact you can find similar mixes in New York City.

For a variety of reasons these groups maintain a certain level of genetic continuity ~ cousin marriage is one of the reasons.

At the same time you wouldn't be surprised to find New Yorkers speaking New Yorkese irrespective of their racial origins you shouldn't be surprised to find people in/near Mombasa speaking Arabic, or even PORTUGUESE.

Doesn't turn the Luo into Arabs, or Portuguese, or Englishmen!

He really doesn't look terribly Arabic. Neither did his grandparents in America. They don't look Arabic at all ~ very Western and Northern European ~ they've even got some Scandinavian ancestry! The jaw, though, is pretty much Viking.
