Ron Paul Launches Presidential Campaign (Drudge: He's In!)
National Journal ^

Posted on 04/26/2011 4:22:54 AM PDT by quesney

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, whose outspoken libertarian views and folksy style made him a cult hero during two previous presidential campaigns, will announce on Tuesday that he's going to try a third time.

Sources close to Paul, who is in his 12th term in the House, said he will unveil an exploratory presidential committee, a key step in gearing up for a White House race. He will also unveil the campaign’s leadership team in Iowa, where the first votes of the presidential election will be cast in caucuses next year.

Meet the GOP's Potential Candidates

Paul, 75, ran as the Libertarian Party candidate in 1988, finishing with less than one half a percent of the vote. After more than a decade as a Republican congressman,

Paul gave it another shot in the 2008 presidential election, gaining attention for being the only Republican candidate calling for the end to the war in Iraq and for his “money bomb” fundraising strategy, which brought in millions of dollars from online donors in single-day pushes.

Paul took 10 percent of the vote in the Iowa caucuses and 8 percent in New Hampshire’s primary. He finished second, with 14 percent of the vote, in the Nevada caucuses, and eventually finished fourth in the Republican nominating process with 5.6 percent of the total vote. Paul’s campaign book, The Revolution: A Manifesto also reached No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list in 2008.

This would seem to be an ideal year for Paul: Since the last election, the Republican Party has moved much closer to his view on deficit reduction, which made him an early tea party favorite. All of the party's top-tier presidential hopefuls are focusing on lowering debt, government spending, and tax rates, issues Paul has long advocated.

Great, an Alex Jones administration as a ‘real possibility’?
No thanks.

I’m not happy about this, but if the choice comes down to him or Romney, I vote for the crank from Texas.

That’s strange. I heard him defend propety rights and freedom of religion.

Hannity was pretty nice to him though, considering he nearly died when Paul supportes threw snowballs at him a few years ago. Well maybe he didn’t die, but he was severely injured. Wait - that was just his ego.

So... is Palin a "crazy 9/11 truther anti-semite" for agreeing with Ron Paul?

Now where did I say that???

Hint: Check my tagline.

You failed to mention Sarah Palin, I am sure it was just an over site on your part :) We shall over look it this time.

I am getting pretty tired of hearing about Bachmann! MB is not worthy to loosen the strap on Sarah`s shoe

75 seems pretty old to be running.

McCain looked like death on a stick compared to Zero. We shouldn’t go there again

He sat with Hannity last night and defended the muslims, shariah, ANd the ground zero mosque. A ron paul in the WH would be as dangerous as he 0 we have now. His strongest financial backing comes fom storm front and its subsidiaries and from muslims for paul. NO EFFING WAY!!!

One of my daughter’s friends who was an Obama voter has flipped to a Libertarian Ron Paul supporter.

I can see that. There is very little difference between the two. The both want to blame America for all the problems in the world. They both want to make sure anyone who wants an abortion is provided one. They both hate our military. About the only difference between them is that Obama has gotten his agenda through. Paul has NEVER accomplished anything.

Those lefties are such strict constitutionalists, aren't they?

Hey, whatever gets you through the day. If you want to believe that, have at it. LOL

What cracks me up is how the Paulbots go on about what a constitutionalist he is, as if he's the only person who has ever quoted from the constitution.

What has the guy ever actually done, except talk? What has he accomplished?

All I've ever seen is that he has the ability to get people to worship him.

And most people who can do that are a menace to society like Jim Jones and Charles Manson.

I have to give RP credit, his and SP’s followers are the most passionate around.
They makes things “interesting” if not colorful.

Ain't gonna get HIM the nomination though IMHO.
HER,on the other hand...

FR is gonna be a SP vs RP battlefield is SHE decides to run.
Might be fun.

Saw a post yesterday about the ages of early presidents. Many in their late 60’s I think, at a time when life expectancy was about 50 yrs. Younger is not really better.

I wish someone would come straight out and ask this pos if he supports the free gaza movement and the gaza flotilla, because I would bet my last dime that he does.

We need Palin & Ron Paul to pull the GOP field to the right...

Have any other candidates ever mentioned the Fed or price inflation? Nope.

It would be fun, but I’m betting FR might actually purge the Paul supporters. Makes for a better arguement when there’s no one to argue with I guess.

I actually like all the odd characters that liberty candidates attract. They want to be free to be themselves, and Paul will let them.

I like people who are a bit colorful. Stiff shirts just bore me.

Paul and Palin both have a lot of haters...makes me like them even more. Sarah is not my favorite candidate, but I like her. And I like her even more when others try to mock her.
