The US pastor whose burning of a Koran sparked deadly violence in Afghanistan was briefly jailed in a heavily Islamic suburb on Friday after a court banned his protest outside a mosque.
A local judge jailed Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Florida and his associate Wayne Sapp after a court found their planned protest outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan, could lead to violence.
During his court appearance, Pastor Jones argued that the Koran "promotes terrorist activities around the world."
He also insisted that his right to protest against Islam was protected by the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
"The First Amendment does us no good if it confines us to saying what is popular," he pointed out.
But Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad testified that his department had received information about serious threats made against Pastor Jones from local residents, and argued that his protest could lead to violence if allowed.
Prosecutor Robert Moran argued that the protest had nothing to do with the First Amendment and at stake were security and peace in the community.
The jury sided with the prosecution and Judge Mark Somers set bond at the symbolic amount of $1 each for the two pastors, which they initially refused to pay.
Following their refusal, both were escorted to a local jail. But local media reported both men changed their minds after spending about an hour behind bars and posted the $1 bond.
Under the judge's ruling, both Pastor Jones and Mr Sapp are now prohibited by the court from going to the mosque for three years.
But Pastor Jones was quoted by The Detroit Free Press as saying the two "will come back next week" to try to organise a new protest.

In other words, you haven’t read it and have no idea whether or not it advocates those things you say it does.
How about the Old Testament? Have you read that one?
And by the way, there’s no “New Testament” for the Torah, at least so far as the Jews are concerned.
The Diversion Continues.
Even if Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama had been birthed in the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House he is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
It still appears you have no problem with those two.
” So is burning the holy book of any religion, as Terry Jones does.”
Anything that gets us closer to expelling all Muslims from our borders is a step in the right direction.
Freedom is so messy. I hate it too.
Muslims have a right to live in peace and practice their religion of peace with out some nut job forcing them to cut off a bunch of dhimmi heads on Easter.
Good for Terry Jones! Burning a Koran in rural Florida is preaching to the choir. Glad he has the balls to try this in Dearborn.
I don’t recall Jones preaching about Christianity in regards to burning the Koran though. I’ve only caught him talking about Islam and burning the Koran as a protest against Islam itself.
The Dove outreach center supported the Westboro psuedobaptist protest of soldier funerals.

What one of the leaders of Jones Dove Outreach Center has to say about the Westboro loons:
Westboro Baptist is not anti-military or anti-USA. Rather the opposite, actually. Do some research. They go to funerals because the Bible says that a fallen soldier is a sign of Gods wrath and a reminder of the condition of this world, a fallen world, in sin. We all know that. None of us want to fight wars. We have to, and we honor the fallen for their sacrifice, but funerals are also a chance to repent and get our lives right with God before our own comes along.
The soldier who is already dead knows whats coming, whether they are in heaven or hell. I think they would be glad for the extra reminder to loved ones that they still have time to make a choice and use the rest of their time given here for God rather than wasting it, in a spiritual sense.
And yes, loons can be right some of the time, and wrong some of the time too.
Freegards
Pretty much except you don't need a passport and you can drive there and avoid being juggled.
Remionds me of the movie, Minority Report.
Our country is dead. Who killed my country?
You are a fascist.

That is what killed America. America could and would survive corrupt politicians. America cannot and will not survive the type people that put these corrupt politicans in office. Simple as that.
In your opinion.
We have to allow the speech of others with whom we disagree. That is the essence of free speech.
Free speech does not require serving a purpose by consensus of the community.
The government cannot determine whether your speech has any purpose because it will inevitably impose tyranny upon those among us who speak unpopular words or whose words threaten the power of existing leaders.
You can ASSume all you’d like.
I think a more apt term is "toe hold" or "beach head". The muzzies expect to conquer us from that point of origin. The U.S and probably the Vatican may be the last points on earth where Christianity is legally practiced at some point. 100 year maybe if we keep in Neville Chamberlin mode.
All the Muslims I know are either serving our country in the military, or are dependents of people serving the country in the military.
Of course, we've had a little bit of trouble with that, too, but you'd be surprised at just how many Muslim soldiers there are.
I'm not sure your solution is quite Constitutional, however. Besides freedom of speech, that esteemed document also grants something called "freedom of religion."
Another stain on the image of Detroit.
The judge, intimidated by the Religion of Peace Mob, pulls a Pontius Pilot for Easter.
And Rev. Jones is the one that gets arrested? How many in muzzieland got incarcerated? Do you think this is how the constitution intended this? Esp, since our own ancestors fought these miscreants for a reason a 1000 years ago.
