Trump rides birther fever to top of Republican primary field
New York Post ^ | April 14, 2011 | NEWSCORE

Donald Trump has shot to the top of the Republican field in a new poll released Friday, buoyed in part by a wave of GOP voters with questions about President Obama's birth certificate.

Some 26 percent of Republican primary voters nationwide said they planned to vote for Trump -- who has not yet publicly declared his candidacy -- compared to 17 percent for second-place finisher Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney garnered 15 percent support and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was fourth with 11 percent, according to the survey from Democratic-aligned firm Public Policy Polling (PPP).

The PPP poll followed a CNN survey earlier in the week which showed Trump tied for the lead with Huckabee with 19 percent support. Thursday's PPP poll revealed that the 64-year old Trump's meteoric rise has been fueled by voters skeptical that Obama was truly born in Hawaii -- speculation that has been avoided by most mainstream Republican politicians.

A PPP Poll that does not even have Sarah Palin leading or even in the top four?

Complete BS.

It would appear that he got the votes over, the spineless jellyfish making up the rest of the field.

Any candidate with the balls to bring this up and stand his ground would have done the same.

Damned spineless GOP.

I simply don't agree. If Sarah Palin had taken on this subject the way Trump has, the MSM would have beaten her into the ground like a tent post with it.

People like Trump because he does not sound like another lying politician. I think he’s so popular right now because some other GOP politicians just proved true to type once again.

Well, if that “fever” sends you to the top of the republican field, it must not be a “fringe” issue.

The birther issue just got Trump’s foot in the door.

His main issue will be our trade relationship with China.

That’s exactly what’s happening. People are sick and tired of the same old politicians saying one thing and doing another. And that explains the GOP to a “t”. I think those of us who held our noses and voted for mccain are not going to do it again.

I do not trust any poll that suggests that Trump is the front runner, however, Trump has shown that a significant portion of the base desires someone who will get in Obama’s smug face.

“Most people feel pretty confident the President was born where he says he was, in Hawaii.”

Ok Bamster - why are you keeping the long form under wraps and why the team of attorneys to keep all information hid?

WHEN WILL STATE RUN MEDIA OR AN IDIOT INTERVIEWER ASK THIS QUESTION?

I don’t think these people are spineless. I believe they are complicit in some way, tiny bit to whole lot, in variety of ways/means eg. money, partys, friends etc etc. .
