"He said, 'Could you get off your bike please?' " she told The Post.
"I said, 'Why?' He said, 'You're not allowed to carry a purse on your handlebars.' I thought he was joking."
Lecomte du Nouy, who had been riding down Columbus Avenue at West 100th Street on Monday at 3 p.m. en route to pick up her 4-year-old daughter at nursery school, said she nearly lost her balance when the cop asked for her driver's license.
"He gets out his little notepad and starts writing things down," she said. "Then I realized he's writing a ticket. I still thought it was a joke."
When she protested, she said the officer comforted her by adding, "Don't worry, you can go to court. The judges always throw these out."

One of my “bucket list” items is to get a speeding ticket...on my bicycle.
Glad to hear that there isn’t any real crime in New York City. Sounds like they could lay off a large part of the police department.
This week I was in NYC for three nights. The NY State and NYC tax on my hotel room was $120.
Yes, because that's the biggest concern the NYPD should have.

” He said, ‘You’re not allowed to carry a purse on your handlebars.’ “
The most dangerous five words in the English Language - “There oughtta be a law...”
” “Don’t worry, you can go to court. The judges always throw these out.” “
Just, wow - leaves ya breathless, don’t it??
Sign over the ant hill:
“ALL THAT IS NOT FORBIDDEN IS MANDATORY!”
More lunacy from the government.
Well... then that policeman's mission is accomplished. Behavior successfully modified.
If, like she's stated, she intends to fight this, she shouldn't be changing anything she does.
Face it, you can’t name 5 things in this country the government doesn’t outright control or heavily influence. This is a tyranny we live in. Sorry.
But I need to meet my QUOTA...................
I guess the cops have to take a break from shooting peoples’ dogs
The most BEAUTIFUL five words in the English Language - Congress shall make no law...

I was pulled over recently on Long Island, NY with all the bells and whistles because one of my tail lights were out. I had no idea that it had blown out. The police officer, looking all serious, would not give me a break, told me there was a “crackdown” on mechanical infractions, but then tried to assure me by insisting that if I got it fixed by a licensed mechanic and showed the bill to the court, I would not be penalized. First of all, he wasted nearly a half hour of my time pulling me over for one burnt out tail light.#2. Although my mechanic did not charge me, I have a nice mechanic, others would have charged #3 If I had replaced the bulb myself, I would have had to prove to another police officer ( oh, just go up to any officer and show him the taillight and ask him to sign the paper within 24 hours) #4.I had to take time off from work to go to traffic court. I look forward one day to living as far “off the grid” as I possibly can.
New York. I’m so grateful that I’m out of that shithole... forever.
Want to stay in the city all weekend, free? Rent an office. Put up a deposit, get a key, enjoy....and late Sat night, phone the landlord and say the place is infested with (name that critter), and that you're going to the health inspector on Monday morning -- oh and the fire inspector too -- and before the dawn on Monday you will get your full deposit back with a smile.
Option two: make yourself a stowaway and on Monday, huffily demand restitution for being locked in. Watch out for security cameras and you'll do fine.
AMEN.

Yes, I have been thinking about this. Everything we do, particularly in urban/suburban areas is heavily patrolled by some kind of government authority. All in the name of “for your own good.” Red light cameras here on Long Island are my current pet peeve. It is a form of entrapment, I believe.
