Donald Trump Slams "Evil" Bush, Praises Obama [2008]
NY 1 ^ | 11/11/2008 | By: Dominic Carter

"McCain, really, that was almost an impossible situation," said Trump. Bush has been so bad, maybe the worst president in the history of this country. He has been so incompetent, so bad, so evil that I don't think any Republican could have won."

While he had harsh words for the outgoing president, he had a much different opinion of President-elect Barack Obama.

"I think he has a chance to go down as a great president. Now, if he's not a great president, this country is in serious trouble," said Trump.

Donald Trump 2012 = Ross Perot 1992
I don't recall Ross Perot seeking a Republican nomination.
As long as Trump doesn't go Independant, then he will not equal H. Ross Perot.
My take is that if Donald Trump is only for Donald Trump, that's OK with me if it means a stronger dollar, stronger real estate, stronger boarders, and international fear and respect.

Solvency = Freedom

Eeh, probably not.

Trump MIGHT be a spoiler if his ego got in the way and he thought he could win an election that he can’t. However he’s also smart enough to know if he can win or not.

However, it’s not in his nature to be an intentional spoiler, because that would be playing a game to help someone else win. Not his M.O.

Hard to tell. Seems like he would do the right thing, but it’s not clear.

HANNITY: Recently, you said that if you don’t get the nomination that you would run as an independent. You are asking Republicans —

TRUMP: I didn’t say that. I said I would certainly think about that. Because the question is what happens if you don’t get the nomination? And this was also before the new polls came out that showed me leading. But they said, what happens if you don’t get? Would you consider running? I said yes, I would consider running as an independent.

HANNITY: All right. But if you do that, that would be the greatest gift to Barack Obama and —

TRUMP: Unless I won. No, no, unless I won.

HANNITY: In reality though, if you are a conservative and you didn’t get the nomination you are running against another conservative, you split the vote, Barack Obama sails into the presidency.

TRUMP: Unless I thought I could win as an independent. I wouldn’t do that, because if I lost, I get a tremendous amount of votes and I would take them all from the Republican Party, which would be terrible. So, unless I thought I could win, really win as an independent, I would not do that. Because I wouldn’t want to come in second or third place and Obama ends up winning.

HANNITY: OK. So, if you thought that it would hurt the chances of defeating Obama, you would not do it?

TRUMP: The only way I would run is, would be if I didn’t get the Republican nomination and felt through polls and lots of other things that are pretty good and pretty scientific. And seem to work over the years, I’ve been watching lots of polls, and they seem to be pretty accurate, amazingly, right? If I thought I could win absolutely win as an independent I would do it. If I didn’t, it would be devastating because you wouldn’t have a Republican in. So, I would have a real problem unless I really felt certain, pretty certain of victory.

“Hannity,” April 14, 2011.

if you think Trump is inconsistent in POTUS praise or condemnation you must have missed every campaign cycle in memory here going back to 1999-2000

back and forth, back and forth...the stuff of exodus

There is going to be 8 or 9 people on the stage at the Iowa Republican Debate. I’ll go on record and say Donald Trump will NOT be one of them. IF he is, then that is where he can try to prove to me he is the best choice. Same with the others. As far as what he says on the talk show circuit, that is irrelevant to me. Ross Perot made great points as well and was right on many points, the “giant sucking sound” being one, but that did not make him Presidential material.

1) Trump said on Hannity last night that he would not pursue running as a third party unless he was sure he could win. He would not make the decision lightly & without intense research. He DOESN”T & WON”T let the occupier in chief get a 2nd term.

2) This isn't 1992 all over again, this is a rewind to 1980 when the RINO GOP establishment wanted their boy Bush Sr, but instead we shoved our man Reagan down their crony elitist throats.

If the "will of the people" trump the US Constitution then we as conservatives have lost already

That's exactly my point. Because the Constitution is just a documented agreement of terms, a generational contract.

IF these new generations of indoctrinated muddleheads coming out of public schools....if the 60 MILLION idiots in this country who voted for Obama....if the 47% of the 300 MILLION American's being polled STILL like Obama after all the evil and contempt he has demonstrated....if all these idiots simply refute the ideals in the Constitution....if they simply choose to allow to accept Obamacare etc as part of America, then YES, we HAVE already lost.

The Supreme Court can't save the Country, the Congress can't save it....only a State where the people give their unanimous consent to be governed by the Constitution can it operate.

That's why treason is such a big deal. You cannot "opt out" of a functioning Constitution. But if enough people do at the same time, then it melts away instantaneously.

And trump is as far from being a Reagan conservative as anyone I can imagine.

America’s ego is weak.

The Donald’s is strong, and he can restore America’s national ego, something we need right now.

Oh, and I figured something out. He likes STRONG politicians. Which is why he liked Hillary, and Reagan, and Giuliani. He dislikes people who are weak, ineffective, or, unable to sell their ideas. Which is why he dislikes Carter and Bush, as well as Obama.

Perot was/is a wuss where the military is concerned as well is Ron Paul. Trump on the otherhand...give him one good admiral & a couple ships and he’ll take care of the extremeist islamic pirates. Spoken like a true leader who is not afraid to call it exactly as it is. Trump has also said will militarize the southern border which should have been done more than a decade ago. I predict Trump will be at that poduim & the rest of the established political talkingpionts-memo-heads better be ready to be called out on the carpet for all of America to see.

This election is going to be about America 1st and it starts with her sovereign borders & respecting her & her military again.

I’m not looking for a new Reagan, Reagan wasn’t perfect either. Have you forgotten that he ushered in the 1st amnesty sham? However, with that said, Trump has more Reaganesque American Patriot qualities than any other proposed possibility out there right now.

"Two year old article. Now Trump is hammering both of them."

By that standard we should ignore Romneycare and focus on Romney's current opposition to Obamacare. I can't help the suspicion that Trumps's conversion is an attempt to ride a Tea Party wave. While I am glad that he is going after Obama, I remain skeptical of him.

I hold the same suspicion and skepticism you do. A major difference between Trump and Romney however is that Trump is one of about 7 public figures in this nation who is overtly calling Obama on his mystery history and on his catastrophic inadequacy to do or even understand anything.

Trump is not my first choice for a candidate. He is not the second, or even the third. But I -would- be willing to vote for him. I am not willing to vote for any of the cold, congealed, slightly moldy, leftover bowls of gray pablum at the back of GOP’s refrigerator of unwanted nomenklatura.

If that is the choice, I will go with the Loki I don’t know rather than one of the devils I do. I would go with heavy heart and trepidation though.

Fact is, W was a president far better than this country deserved.

What a load of BS and excuses. Bush had ample opportunity to do all kinds of things and he fumbled the ball at every turn. His ineptitude on spending and balancing the budget was a precursor to what we see today. He lost his base with his insane opposition to meaningful immigration reform, and furthermore, told us we were bigots for opposing his open-borders policy.

He did absolutely nothing to advocate our missions in the Middle East and his people defended them so lamely as to give credence to the narrative that our campaign in Iraq was based on lies. All of us who defended the missions, he basically hung out to dry.

He crippled the GOP nationally by putting a complete loser/closet homosexual (Ken Mehlman) at the helm and by making a now proven anti-conservative, Karl Rove, his right-hand man. He needed to do something dramatic at the end of his term--like retiring Dick Cheney and promoting a conservative light to the VP slot--to help our election chances in 2008. Instead, he did nothing as his approval ratings plummeted, basically paving the way for a sweeping Democrat victory on every level.

Is that enough for you? I stand by my original post: Bush was a dreadful president.

If Trump didn’t know anything about Obama when he made the comments, then he has less than half the intelligence of the average Freeper.

This eliminates him from consideration for the presidency.

Although they have VERY different personalities, Trump does share a few key traits with Reagan:

-an unabashed love of his country
-belief in American Exceptionalism
-a belief in a strong defense

One major problem with your analogy:

Trump has never held elective office. Trump doesn't really have a political "record" so to speak.

Trump has a few very strong points in his favor:

1. Not only is he not a GOP retread, he’s not a politician at all.

2. He’s unabashedly patriotic.

3. His skeletons have been out of the closet since the 80s, so an “October Surprise” against The Donald would be futile.

4. He plays to WIN.

5. He’s got a gigantic set of clanking balls that could make Chris Christie jealous.

6. His large ego means he will do everything he can not to fail.

7. Re: that ego, he can translate that to improving the nation’s own ego around the world, something we desperately need after Obama’s bending over exercises in Muslim countries.

8. He not only recognizes, but isn’t afraid to say, that we have a MUSLIM PROBLEM in the world.

9. He understands the fiscal crisis we’re in and has ideas on how to fix it (yes, he needs more specifics here).

10. He understands the China Problem.

With the polls showing that 50% of Republicans have concerns over this issue, raising it in a GOP Primary is a sure way to rise to the top tier of candidates. I can't help but suspect that it was a calculated attempt to gain attention and join the top tier of candidates. If he had shown any interest in the issue previously, I might not see it that way.
