GOP Boss Wants Trump to Shut up on Birther Claims
U.S. News ^ | 04/13/2011 | Paul Bedard

Newly-installed Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has a message for Donald Trump and other so-called "birthers": Shut up!

Priebus, who's starting to score some fundraising and organizational victories inside GOP HQ, having taken over for controversial former Chairman Michael Steele, says the debate over President Obama's birthplace and whether he can be president is a huge distraction away from the party's effort to fight Democratic spending and tax plans.

In an interview, we asked if he, like Trump, is a birther. "I'm not," says Priebus. "I believe that the president was born in Hawaii." [Read 10 things you didn't know about Reince Priebus.]

"I think that the entire issue gets me off track to what I really need to focus on which is how to beat him [Obama]," says Priebus. "And the reason I need to beat him is not because I'm the chairman of the RNC, or because I view this as some partisan endeavor that I'm on. I'm truly concerned about the future direction of our country. I'm very concerned about America. I'm concerned about the idea of America," says Priebus. "Look," he adds of Obama. "He's driving our country off a fiscal cliff, that's what he's doing."

When you get a rebuttal to any of your points, you reject it out of hand. If it contradicts Obama’s official version of events, you find some excuse for dismissing it. Why would anybody waste their time in such a futile exercise?

I’ve read your posts for a while now. You went through a stage where you demanded proof that Obama was a liar. Not proof that he’s pathological—you wanted a list of all his lies! As if he is some paradigm of virtue and honesty, being maligned by a vicious right wing that only *claims* he lies.

I remember your stage where you claimed no president in history has been asked for more documentation than this one. Poor Obama! The mean bullies on the racist right just can’t be satisfied! They’re holding him to a higher standard than any other person ever has been or will be!

curiosity, these are not the positions of a rational person. You now admit he’s a liar, but you also say he’s no worse than the average politician. And you have the gall to call ME irrational.

Whatever.

Btw, did you ever explain why, if the COLB is legit, it appeared first on Daily Kos??? The WH didn’t claim they had released it. It just appeared, poof, out of the blue, on a far left hate site. This is the place run by the monster who rejoiced over the tortured, charred bodies of US contractors strung up on an Iraqi bridge. The man is mad with partisan bile and hatred. Not even Obama’s marxist WH is insane enough to release a document they want anyone to take seriously first to a site like that.

Face it, you’re defending a fraud. Any parts of his ‘biography’ that can be checked have been shown to be lies. Only the unavailability of Obama’s sealed documents—i.e.: everything related to his past—prevents the rest of that vile fantasy from being exposed. Why do you defend this type of garbage on FR? Surely you can find somewhere else to stand up for your Kenyan hero.

Like I said, the TEA Party is a mix of smart fiscal conservatives and blithering idiots.

Tea Party
Tea Party Express
Tea Party Rebellion

"If you cannot live with the above, fine, but keep your mouth shut about it while on FR. Don't fight against us on ANY of our deeply held beliefs!!"

How difficult is it to say, "No comment"?

Or how about: "Donald Trump is a private citizen, and the last time I looked, we had freedom of speech. Are you against freedom of speech?"

The article was just satire:

Washington Whispers has been featured in U.S. News & World Report since 1933, offering a fun, insider's view of Washington.

This is a perfect example of why the Repubs are a freaking lost cause.

An RNC spokesman reiterated that Priebus had never said “shut up,” and was asked a question specifically about what he thought of the birther issue. Priebus made clear, as he has before, that he does not buy into to claims, repeatedly discredited by fact-checking and news organizations, that President Barack Obama was born outside the United State, and that he thinks the birther movement drags the party off-message.

IOW, he told Trump to shut up about "birther" claims.

When you get a rebuttal to any of your points, you reject it out of hand.

I am open to rebuttals if they have a basis in fact that can be supported by hard evidence. However, if a rebuttal has no basis in fact, is is the case for all but a handful of birther rebuttals I've seen, then I reject it out of hand without apology.

If it contradicts Obama’s official version of events, you find some excuse for dismissing it.

That's only if the rebuttal has no basis in fact. If there is a basis in fact, I will accept it.

For example, Obama's official version of events is wrong as to the timing of his mother's move to Seattle. Birthers have uncovered hard evidence she was taking classes in Seattle starting in the Fall quarter of 1961. I accept that, even though in contradicts Obama's account, which has her there at a later date (I don't recall exactly how much later; either 1962 or 1963).

Btw, did you ever explain why, if the COLB is legit, it appeared first on Daily Kos??? The WH didn’t claim they had released it. It just appeared, poof, out of the blue, on a far left hate site.

I have no idea why it appeared there first, though I don't see how it is relevant. A document does not lose its validity just because the first person to see it is a bit dodgy.

Any parts of his ‘biography’ that can be checked have been shown to be lies.

The COLB appeared on Kos first because it’s a forgery. Obama needed plausible deniability, so he didn’t say, ‘My official document is about to be posted on Kos’. He said nothing, and the silly image showed up out of the blue. The only person who would claim it proved anything is a liberal desperate to establish Obama’s legitimacy.

Of course you think Kos is a legitimate site. It’s far left moobattery fits in with the pro-Obama crap you post all over FR. A ‘rightwing’ site you smear with WorldNUTdaily epithets, but Kos—they’re A-Okay.

Only a moonbat would consider Kos more reliable than Worldnetdaily. Case closed.

Your argument makes no sense. If he wanted to maintain plausible deniability, he wouldn't have allowed it to be posted on his campaign website shortly thereafter. He also wouldn't have allowed Factcheck staffers come to his campaign HQ and photograph it.

The two fact-checkers that photographed the Kos document were little more than children. Neither had any background in forensic document examination. One held the forgery and the other took pics. They were rewarded with plum Dem positions.

He allowed Kos to upload the image for people like you. People who wanted something, anything, to prove his legitimacy. Since he couldn’t post nothing at all, he let Kos post a fraud. And just you saying, over and over, that it’s real doesn’t make it so. If it were real, he’d have let a bona fide neutral expert look at it. The opposite happened.

Why don’t you pimp for Obama elsewhere? Haven’t you run sufficient interference for this lying liar on FR?

I see you are changing the argument, now. That's okay. Before we move on, however, will you at least concede that the fact the document first appeared on Kos is irrelevant to its validity?

Hell no. I have said all along that if Obama had anything legitimate, he’d have released it in a legitimate setting. He’d have taken ownership of the doc from the beginning, AND he’d have allowed independent verification. Instead he picked one of the least credible, most virulently hateful, mother of all moonbat sites. He didn’t do that because he had a bona fide document. He did it because his forgery sucked, and the only chance it had of flying was to make sure that only unhinged moonbats ever caught an actual glimpse of it.

Okay, so you think the factcheck staffers are unhinged moonbats too, I suppose.

What about Hawaii's GOP-appointed health director, who explicitly affirmed that the state's vital records show he was born in Hawaii? Is she an unhinged moonbat, too?

Who’s changing the subject??? I never changed the subject, but you accused me of it anyway. Now, when you lose on all fronts, you change the subject with no apparent irony. Hypocrisy, anyone?

I think the factcheck kids are exactly who they are: young, inexperienced Democrat activists. They did what they were told to do, and were rewarded for it.

I’d like to see all the corrupt HI officials in who have spoken about Obama put under oath and questioned by a hostile prosecutor. Unless and until that happens, I don’t expect to get the truth. But you keep on pluckin’ that chicken; it’s what you do so well.

Why do you keep calling them kids? I don't know how old Jess Henig is, but Joe Miller is almost 40. He was already an associate professor at West Point way back in 2001.

See, this is the problem with making up stuff as you go along. You end up being wrong.

Speaking of which, what is this plum political job you say Jess Henig now holds? Miller started working for the CBO in January 2011 (yep, apparently the Dems waited two full years to "reward" him), but what political favor has Henig received?
