Trump Will ‘Probably’ Run as Independent If He Doesn’t Win GOP Nomination
WSJ ^ | 4/11/2011

Posted on 04/11/2011 9:38:25 PM PDT by Uncledave

{snip} “I hate what’s happening to the country,” said Mr. Trump, a real estate tycoon and host of the NBC show “Celebrity Apprentice.” He will not formally make a decision until June, however, when this season of his television show is over. “I can’t run during the airing of that show,” Mr. Trump said, “I’m not allowed to.” But he said he would make an announcement “by June” and his candidacy looks increasingly likely.

Mr. Trump’s candidacy would complicate matters for the GOP as it looks to front someone who can unite the fractious party and mount a serious challenge to President Obama’s reelection bid. A recent Wall Street Journal/NBC poll recently found Mr. Trump tied for second place with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee among likely voters in a GOP primary. Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who moved a step closer to formally declaring his own candidacy Monday, is still the frontrunner, though not by a wide margin.

“I think the Republicans are very concerned that I [may] run as an independent,” Mr. Trump said. His support is highest among the conservative wing of the party, not least because he is among the so-called “birthers” who doubt that President Obama in fact was born in the U.S. “It’s a very important issue,” Mr. Trump said of demanding that President Obama show his birth certificate, which has separately been reviewed by the media and deemed legitimate. “I’m not ashamed of having raised that issue.”

“I am very conservative,” said Mr. Trump. “The concern is if I don’t win [the GOP primary] will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes.” Mr. Trump said he thought he “could possibly win as an independent,” adding, “I’m not doing it for any other reason. I like winning.”

I still don’t believe he will run.

Well most thinking Freepers knew this since the Donald starting flapping his gums. Wonder how the bandwagoners will take it?

Find it yourself. I’m not going to do your work for you. Just like a Dem, expecting someone else to do the work. And you post the link when you find it.

"'I am very conservative,' said Mr. Trump. 'The concern is if I don’t win [the GOP primary] will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes.'"

He'll run, and he can win. He's certainly not Perot. The girls in Perot's family were politically active feminists, while Trump is called a "sexist" and "misogynist" by those of the bipartisan political class. Perot called for a 50-cent gas tax, while Trump wouldn't go there. Perot was in favor of free trade and globalism. Trump said that the Dept. of Education should be shut down.

This depression and the default ahead of us were caused by political correctness: a recycled paradigm that's swirling toward the drain of empires past.

Donald Trump serves two entities and two only:

1. Donald Trump, and
2. Donald Trump’s ego.

For a guy so vehement about stopping 0bama’s reelection, Trump sure seems willing to facilitate making it happen. If he “goes Perot,” the chances of the GOP winning the White House drops from the low double-digits to zero.

I’ve been saying this whole time he was nothing but this decade’s Perot.

Perot at least cared about something other than stroking his own ego. From the start, I've always believed Trump was an bullying, self-serving blowhard and an a**hole, and this proves it out.

Just a theory here, but I would not be surprised if Trump worked behind the scenes with Obama’s boss Soros to gain the agreement Trump could blast away at the BC issue, then split off and go indie to slaughter any chances of defeating Obama.

Since the amoral Trump cares only about contracts and consideration, I wonder if there was an exchange of $ to make this happen.

Photobucket This scheme has been set in place for years, they just needed a 'birther spokesman' to saturate the air waves. Hello Trump.

“I am very conservative,” said Mr. Trump.

Oh, horsesh*t.

A conservative wouldn't be pro-abortion.

A conservative wouldn't back universal health care.

A conservative wouldn't push for an "assault weapon" ban, along with other restrictions to 2nd Amendment rights.

A conservative wouldn't bully people of modest means into surrendering their property through "eminent domain" because you want extra limousine parking space for your high-rollers.

A conservative wouldn't hand the country on a silver platter to 0bama for another 4 years by dividing the GOP vote.

Piss off, Trump. Not everyone buys into your game.

Don’t think it’s a coincidence that Trump’s Third Party talk starts 2 days after the House GOP caves with respect to Obama...

Well gee, surprise, surprise....

Yep, saw that one coming a mile away...friend of Hillary and it is not like this did not work beautifully for the Clintons before. The little general went out and spouted some very strong truths all the while saying he was conservative while his wife was big time involved with planned parenthood.

Perot...Perot...Perot. History just keeps repeating itself.

That would mean a second term for Zero, and I think Trump knows it.

I bet saying he would consider running as an independent at this stage is just to get the GOP to take him seriously and include him

This sounds plausible to me.

The plot unfolds. The Tea party is very explicit: NO THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE.

Still, if we get a Romney or Huckaboo, it's pretty much over anyways.
