An Arizona-like law to combat illegal immigration has a snowball's chance in Phoenix of passing the California Legislature, but freshman Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks (San Bernardino County) is giving it a shot.
Donnelly, who has patrolled the California-Mexico border as part of the militant Minutemen citizen group, held a rally at the Capitol today for his bill, AB26. The bill would make a number of changes in state law, including requiring law enforcement to verify the immigration status of anyone who is arrested and suspected of being in the country illegally.
It also would make it illegal to limit the enforcement of federal immigration laws -- an attempt to go after sanctuary cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles -- and require employers to use the E-verify system while barring them from hiring anyone they know is not here legally.
The rally attracted about 100 participants, along with a good number of television cameras, and the crowd largely consisted of folks wearing Tea Party T-shirts and other Tea Party garb.
Donnelly told the crowd that the Arizona law, and his proposal for California, was in part motivated by the killing of three members of the Bologna family in San Francisco in June 2008. Edwin Ramos, an undocumented immigrant and suspected member of the MS-13 gang, is charged with the killings and is awaiting trial.
He said his bill would make it legal for people to sue sanctuary cities, as was attempted by the family members of the victims. They lost in state and federal courts, as judges ruled the city could not be held liable.

UNlicensed ,probably illegal, immigrants have killed a child and a mother in seperate car crashes in the Cicinnati Ohio area this weekend.
Arizona state senator Russell Pearce spoke and said he has a stack of papers of crimes committed by illegals against American citizens.
Gee, if this law were to be enacted, and the POTUS were an illegal immigrant...
So, Neighborhood Watch is a militant organization, for doing exactly the same thing...seeing suspicious activity and calling the police?
Odd, I never, ever saw or heard anything about Minutemen carrying RPGS, firing (real) assault weapons in the air, wearing suicide vests, or catching and beheading illegal aliens; so, what makes them "militant"?
Couldn't get any farther in the slanted to the point of propaganda hit piece.
The rally attracted about 100 participants,...................................Wow what a showing. I’m sure the MSM made points on that one.
My thoughts exactly. MILITANT?
militant |ˈmilətənt| adjective combative and aggressive in support of a political or social cause, and typically favoring extreme, violent, or confrontational methods : an uprising by militant Islamic fundamentalists.
