LANDOVER, Md. Pressing his energy policy goals, President Barack Obama on Friday prodded large companies to modernize their shipping fleets with more fuel efficient vehicles, improvements that he said would reduce U.S. dependency on foreign oil and cut down business overhead costs in the long term.
The president ventured to suburban Maryland and toured a UPS shipping facility, where he examined all-electric as well as hybrid vehicles used by companies such as AT&T, Verizon and PepsiCo. Obama launched a new public-private partnership designed to help large commercial fleets cut back on their diesel and gasoline use.

that might be the coolest vehicle i’ve ever seen.
I see less and less of those stickers on cars and we are talking about liberal Massachusetts here. Where are all the 0bama ones? The bumper sticker removal kit?
I agree, that is a great idea!
Cash for clunkers!
Grasping at straws, dear leader.
The UPS man now comes to your door , gives you your package and asks if he can plug his truck in so he can get to the next delivery.
Notice how clean the electric UPS truck is. My brother-in-law works for UPS and he said they tried one in Atlanta and parked it after one day. He said all the drivers said it was a POS. It cannot haul a full load for a full route and all the deliveries were not made that day. He also said it was slow as crap and could not keep up with traffic.
Interesting that they don’t list the car’s weight on the chart. That’s a number people could easily compare with their own car.
I doubt it would drive the poodles here as crazy as the regular brown rig, drives ‘em nuts.. they rumble big time.. electric just kind of whirrrrs around..
Ford has a diesel, non-electric vehicle in Europe that gets 70 mpg....the Ford Focus Econetic. This is currently on the road, and is prevented from entry into the US market.
No big batteries; just a super-efficient, clean-diesel engine.
I believe the stated concerns are environmental due to the word “diesel.” The real problem is that it gets 70 mpg. http://dieseldig.com/2009/09/16/2010-ford-focus-econetic-gets-74-mpg/
We are going bribe them to buy electric.
That is pretty funny.
I drive a long-bed, diesel F-250. It suits me just fine, and has been very helpful and dependable for the things I need.
I have a really difficult time listening to any politician tell me to reduce my ‘consumption, footprint, etc’, when they travel in private jets and motorcades. Does anyone have their fuel consumption statistics? I would guess that federal and state govts use a large percentage of the total US fuel consumption.
I drive an F150 crew cab with 7 ft bed. Needed a good vehicle to tow a large boat, needed a 4x4 for the area we live in when it snows, and needed a pickup for hauling stuff. It’s a great truck.
At the same time, I don’t have anything against driving a high mpg vehicle for run-around type driving.
People everywhere blew by a big ‘tell’ from 0bama months ago. He responded to someone by saying, “I am not King.”
He did not use the word ‘a’ in that sentence. That is actually a very big deal in the English language and says all you really need to know about a person’s world view and background. Think about it.
