Sumi warns attorneys to watch their comments (Judge now censoring Wisconsin AG)

Before wrapping up a brief hearing Wednesday, Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi offered a word of caution to attorneys involved in high-profile lawsuits over collective bargaining in Wisconsin.

Sumi said emotions are running high over two cases she is hearing regarding Gov. Scott Walker's plan to eliminate most collective bargaining for public workers. That "spirited debate" is important in a democracy, but attorneys must keep in mind their professional ethics, Sumi said.

"They all have a responsibility to promote and not denigrate the judicial branch and, more importantly, the rule of law," she said.

She advised lawyers to review state Supreme Court rules that say: "A lawyer shall not make a statement that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge...."

I wish Walker HAD pushed through a bill “eliminating most collective bargaining for public workers.” What the law whose validity is being litigated did was to eliminate such bargaining from the benefits portion of public worker compensation. Salaries can still be wrangled as before.

The Judge does not want to let the facts get in the way of a good censure.

Walker needs to as Sumi why she has failed to step down from ruling on this issue considering her own past and her son's position. And he needs to do so publicly.

I don’t understand why the Stupid Party doesn’t just trump this disgraceful democrat party hack judge and vote on the bill with the quorum of Flee-baggers now present.

Her outrageous “decision” would be moot.

Then again, they truly are the Stupid Party.

I'm not a lawyer so I'll say it: "Judge, you are a partisan political hack. Too bad you didn't apply your misbegotten, ill-thought Temporary Restraining Order to other than your career buddy Secretary of State. Shoulda cracked those law books a little more all this time you have drawn a public check since law school. Your ignorance is showing - even to us laymen. Clap me in irons, Judge."

I see that this morning Walker has said he will comply with the judges TRO. I thought he would push this and see if the judge would back up her tough talk. Oh well, either way this goes this will be on to the Wi appeals court or/and supreme court in the future.

Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi . . .

Someone from Wisconsin please educate me.

By my reading, Sumi is not even on the state supreme court. She is the equivalent of one judge on the 9th Circus Court of Schlemiels trying to trump two other coequal branches of the government. Correct?

By Wisconsin state law, she doesn’t have the authority to do what she is trying to do.
Besides, her family is heavily involved in the unions.. conflict of interest much?

But according to her, the AG is not allowed to say that because it shows the truth about her being on the take.

"keep in mind their professional ethics", Sumi said.

I don't know how many more cases of liberal high-handed hypocrisy I can take.

Maybe Walker just wants to keep things calm until, hopefully, Prosser gets the OK next week. Then he can tell Sumi to go pound sand.
