I don't want to hear any of you stupid, selfish, tax donkey Freepers b*tching about paying too much in property taxes!
its a joke people buy property and are tax at the highest value years ago.
that’s a double ringy dingy for wealth redistribution
Your house (future white middle class nest egg) is worth less or worthless
and the useless eaters are pulling ever more property taxes out of your wallet for your white middle class privilege of having bought a home
The Housing market will not recover until the government stops interfering with it, artificially propping it up and not allowing the free market to determine the value of things.
I will be protesting my real estate taxes this year.
I’ve been keeping track of home sales in my area so I will be prepared to challenge my tax bill.
All belts will be tightened. Including those who depend on tax money for their pay checks.
good luck
around here they reduce the value and increase the mill rate
and throw in a few “fees” to pad the account
You don’t buy it. Land. You just rent it. The ‘buy’ price is just a security deposit so that the King, Dukes, staff, minions, cops, unions can hold that security deposit against you if you don’t pay them. When you leave, you may be allowed to get some of it back.
50% effective taxation and massive debts are the price we pay for civilization ( /s )
How many freepers even know if they can appeal or dispute property taxes WITHOUT paying a county or city fee to do so?
In Florida the county clerk has fees if you want to dispute your prop taxes. Getting out of hand I’d say.
I’m in Texas. I didn’t know there were fees to protest but I will look into that. I was under the impression you make an appointment, show up at the allotted time and it is pretty much cut and dried that your taxes will be lowered. Also, there are companies that specialize in tax bill protests.
Exactly!
Years ago, I was at a small gathering with Howard Jarvis (Prop. 13). He predicted then that Government would continue raising costs to property owners through any means they could.
After renting for 11 years, I got the “itch” to buy a home a month or so ago, and started looking, since the price of homes had dropped. I found that not only are property taxes higher, closing costs have increased proportionally since when you close on a property you have to put 12-months of taxes in escrow.
I’ve decided to remain a renter.
An extreme example in my neighborhood is a home that started out at $150K last year, and has dropped in price several times to $97K. Sounds like a bargain, except the property taxes on it are still $5200! That’s almost as much as I pay in rent a year.
We sold our home in Mpls last Sept. and only got this notice because the deed had not transferred as of the date of mailing. It would have added over $50 to our monthly payment.
What planet are these uber-libs living on? There is probably only one way left to stop this nonsense.
And, it ain't gonna be pretty.
If this gains any traction, look for the Democrats to seriously ramp-up the War on Bankers and enforce some kind of cramdown program on mortgage principles. Anything to deflect attention away from how much the Gubbermint has their hands in the cookie jar.
A few years ago our real estate assessment went down by 100K. Our property tax went up 300 bucks nonetheless.
Yup!
That is exactly the reason.
Good luck. Unless you have the right comps, you won't get much. I tried fighting it a couple years ago. Before the hearing, they offered a 1% reduction; I thought I had evidence to warrant a reduction of about 8%. After politely listening to me, their case was presented using comps I considered highly unreasonable, and the panel voted to approve the 1% reduction.
This was in Collin County. Our 1:00 appointment consisted of 20 people being ushered into the room to await their turn. I was first; perhaps they wanted to make an example of me in hopes that some of the others would give up and leave before their turn came up.
I'll tell you - here in New Jersey, they are beginning to get very nervous.
In the "old days" of just a few years ago, the mantra was just keep raising property taxes every year to whatever they damn felt like. Now homeowners are always pushing back. Gov Christie gets a lot of great Conservative press and YouTube hits for standing up to the teachers union, but he caved big time on his "2% cap deal" for property taxes with the democrats. Townships can exceed the 2% cap just by saying they need to in order to pay for pensions and health benefits! So, towns are getting greedy again and people are getting screwed. My taxes went up a huge amount, and are going up even more. The protests and appeals don't work. Period. The reason: they need the money too badly.
Every teacher and administrator in NJ that can retire is racing for the exits, trying to "grandfather" in their pensions while they still can. A large percentage of them (not sure of the actual amount) are then fleeing the state of NJ and moving to North Carolina or Florida in order to...........................wait for it.................................................................................................................AVOID PAYING NJ TAXES!
There is talk about making retirees stay in the state in order to collect their generous checks, but I doubt that will ever happen.
Here is what scares me: all we need is a little shove, and the whole country will find itself in a deep Depression (and we are in one now, despite what the MSM tells us), along with hyperinflation.
Is there a tax revolt coming? Hard to say. That would actually be akin to a revolution, and the thing about revolutions is they usually only break the damn after swelling to the point of no return. Who knows when that is reached.
