How many freepers even know if they can appeal or dispute property taxes WITHOUT paying a county or city fee to do so?

In Florida the county clerk has fees if you want to dispute your prop taxes. Getting out of hand I’d say.

I’m in Texas. I didn’t know there were fees to protest but I will look into that. I was under the impression you make an appointment, show up at the allotted time and it is pretty much cut and dried that your taxes will be lowered. Also, there are companies that specialize in tax bill protests.

BTDT... went to the county for an appeal. They were the rudest, most arrogant jerks. But I did get a reduction. Then I told them that they were the rudest, most arrogant public workers that I had ever talked with.

You can in Salt Lake County. We've successfully protested ours the last two years. This last year was particularly outrageous. They tried to claim our house had increased in value by over $150K. In a single year, in this housing market. Yeah, right. I think they were trying to catch a lot of people who are seriously underwater, and these folks would be so relieved to see their property values increase they wouldn't mind being soaked by the government. Not us, we're not underwater, and we're not selling for years, so we protested.
