We've had a cold snap. Slushy snow due by morning, but it should warm back up next week. The only thing I'm worried about are the strawberry vines I put in last week. I have various peppers and tomatoes in the widows waiting to sprout. Tulips and Daffodils are threatening to bloom.

Darlene Love's a voice in the background on the Beach Boys' "In My Room" and actually gets royalties on that one. Bette even mentioned it at the awards ceremony. Phil Specter seldom went into the studio without her and Luther Vandross never excluded her. It's also a challenge to find her on Ike & Tina's "River Deep Mountain High" but, all the discographies say she's there. Specter considered her the foundation of his "Wall of Sound". She's on hundreds of sessions as a back-up singer. I really thought they should have made her "sideman" of the year rather than Leon, because Leon has tons of solo work despite having backed everyone in the business since he was 15. He's really looking frail after brain surgery, but his performance with John Meyer was awesome and will evoke tears when he momentarily chokes up on "A Song for You". Elton John's induction speech was pretty cool too.

The FUSE Network is re-running the awards in heavy rotation this weekend - catch it if you can. Both Rob Zombie and Neil Young managed to be funny. Tom Waits' acceptance speech is hysterical: "They say I never had a hit and I'm difficult to work with ... like that's a bad thing?" lol. Paul Simon's induction of Neil Diamond was pretty funny too: "What took so long? Five words: You Don't Bring Me Flowers." Diamond seemed a bit flaky but Dr. John and Darlene tore the place up and the Alice Cooper reunion was a gas - especially the little kids on "School's Out". It was the best award's show in years imho. Gosh, Es and I have been pounding the Tom Waits drum here forever. We've been vindicated!!!

I’m gonna put the tomatoes elsewere, next to my strawberry pach. Most of that plowed ground is for sweet corn dude. If the price keeps doubling, corn is gonna be a better investment than gold. Last year’s 35¢ can of corn is 89¢ right now.

I read somewhere on FR that veal is a bargain right now because farmers are slaughtering the youngins in mass because they can’t afford to feed them. This is going to be a year to cherish our gardens.
