Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann is now threatening us with the idea of exploring a Presidential race, it was announced today. Well first, enough with the exploratory committees. They are a tired gimmick in Presidential races. Just admit you are running, or don't run. As per a Michele Bachmann candidacy, this is good news for the media and bad news for the GOP. The press will be delighted, with a new gaff-prone carnival candidacy to snicker at. It is pure gold for the writers' room at Saturday Night Live.
But for the Republican party? A headache, pure and simple. President Obama can be defeated in 2012, but it will not be easy and the election will not in any way be about the tiny sliver of voters that a Bachmann for President campaign would appeal to. Instead, the vital swing voters who will decide the 2012 election will look at Michele Bachmann on the campaign trail and howl like villagers getting their first torch-lit glimpse of Frankenstein's monster. They will stampede quickly in the opposite direction, away from the GOP.
As I tweeted a few weeks ago, Michele Bachmann makes Sarah Palin look like Count Metternich. Luckily the Bachmann effect will be relatively small. Other more serious candidates will dominate the Republican primary process. But her candidacy will not be helpful to the larger Republican or conservative cause.

I see that the Marxists are afraid of Michele, too. It’s nice of them to let us know which of our potential candidates are truly threatening to them.
OK, exploration over, now return to your office congresswoman and continue fighting for conservative causes.
Anyone that would listen to a lefty media outlet on picking our nominee did not learn the lessons from 2008.
Libs hate strong women.
What do you think, fellow language-geeks? Is this in the running for "most pathetic dependent clause ever," or what?
The sissy's at Time Magazine are already running for the hills.
Pravda Amerika speaks.
Just a good endorsement for Bachmann in my book.
Bachmann-Pawlenty would be unstoppable. The GOP has an embarrassment of riches this campaign season. Yes we can!!
If Republicans let Time magazine’s Obama Fan Club choose its nominee, they should save time and money and concede the ‘12 election now.
Michele Bachmann was the former babysitter for Gretchen Carlson. This morning Gretchen opined that she thinks Michele is running for VP. I happen to agree.
The biggest flaw in the ‘moderate wing of the party is that principled conservatives like Bachman, Palin, Rand Paul, DeMint, Rubio, etc cannot appeal to middle of the road republicans and independents. These are the very types of candidates that decade by decade actually win for the GOP. Reagan is the modern era template, but there are countless others. This last election cycle was filled with dozens ofmthem. Those candidates who stood confidently and clearly communicated conservative solutions to our problems win almost every time. Losers like Mike Murphy (who do not have a winning track record, btw with their moderate candidates) will point to the outliers like NV Senate And Delaware as ‘evidence’ ignoring the hundred or so examples disproving their philosophy. Look at the governors races and winning senate races in key swing states....most went GOP with candidates sharing mostly the same platform as Bachmann.
Mike, you are a twit. I hope Mitt paid you well for this.
Palin/Bachmann?
Gee, the MSM doesn’t like Michelle Bachmann and doesn’t want her to run for president. What a freakin surprise. I never would have guessed it in a million years.
I expect to see more and more articles in the MSM about how every possible conservative candidate is “bad for the GOP” and has no chance of beating Obama. Then if a favorite of the MSM is nominated (like McCain), they will say he or she should never be president and Obama is the better candidate.
These people are so predictable. Their publications are all losing money and circulation. I wish they would just go bankrupt and go away.
I wish Time magazine would just hurry up and go to h3ll.
Simple question: Today, would you rather have a communist muslim mulatto anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-military, pro-third-world dictators Chicago union thug in the White House or a patriot Conservative. Easy answer unless you’re an anarchist Demonrat.
While John Boehner and all of the GOP-lite types are nicking a billion here and a billion there, Michele has proposed a logical place to make a deep and significant cut. Is anybody listening?
I would be willing to bet that the day Bachmann announces her exploratory committee you will have at least one or two Republicans announce that they are running for the seat that Bachmann is vacating. She will wind up out of Congress, out of Washington, and out of the spotlight.
