Republican lawmakers and oil industry executives are slamming President Obama for offering to help Brazil expand offshore drilling while U.S. production struggles to get back on its feet in the wake of the BP spill.
The president, on the first leg of his trip to Latin America, said in Brazil over the weekend that his administration wants to assist the Brazilian government "with technology and support" in developing its oil reserves -- a black gold mine he said could hold twice as much oil as U.S. deposits.
"And when you're ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers," Obama said.
That message struck some at home as bizarre and misguided, considering the administration has stressed the need to wean the United States off foreign oil and move toward alternative fuels.

We should be exporting oil and not importing it.
When given the choice between Soros and America, who would any thinking person expect him to pick?
Why? He’s only payin back George Soros..../s
I've always hated clowns, but O-bozo the clown just takes the freakin cake.
He is the first so-called occupant of our White House who honestly and genuinely hates this country and everything it stands for. And his overweight wife hates us even more . . . she’s on this gravy train with her affirmative action husband for all it’s worth.
I’m more PO’ed that Zero granted Petrobas a lease to drill 100 miles off Luisiana at a depth of over 8,000 feet, after effectively cancelling all the deep-water leases that were there before the BP blowout.
It’s so...redistributive.
You can say that again !!!!
He is, and always will be, nothing but an empty suit!!
‘Republican lawmakers and oil industry executives are slamming President Obama for...’
More political theater. The subject can change but the MO never does which is why we’re headed over the edge.
Why just Republicans? Are there no Democrats from gulf states who see this as cutting the throats of their constituents? Or are all Democrats bowing at his altar?
“Republican lawmakers and oil industry executives are slamming President Obama for offering to help Brazil expand offshore drilling while U.S. production struggles to get back on its feet in the wake of the BP spill.”
So get off your lard butts and cut the funding. If you don’t, you agree with Obama.
What a bunch of crooks!!!!
I read yesterday the the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement had already approved the National Oil Company of BRAZIL...Petrobras... to drill the next well in our Gulf! Not a private or American oil company!! We can all thank the Manchurian!
When a country no longer produces its own energy, produces its own goods and food... it is no longer a super power.
When a country no longer produces its own energy, produces its own goods and food... it is no longer a super power.
Have we ever forgiven their debt?? Yes!!!
President Obama halted the exploration for oil in the Gulf of Mexico after the BP leak. What I understand there has only been one permit issued to begin new exploration. We have ANWAR where we could be drilling and pipe it 74 miles to the Alaskan Pipeline. The discoveries of oil deposits in the north central part of our country remain untouched. Who side is he on anyway? We are doomed as a nation if we don’t get our heads out of *ss and elect someone as President that really cares about this country.
