Six hero pilots return home safe and sound from a bombing mission to Libya which saw them in the cockpit for an incredible 25 hours.
Three B-2 Spirit bombers, piloted by two men each, made it back after the 11,418-mile round trip from the Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri - where they are kept in special hangars - to Libya, where they hit targets on forces loyal to Colonel Gaddafi and back again.
At $2.1bn, they are the most expensive warplanes in the world and rarely leave their climate-controlled hangars. But when it does, the B-2 bomber makes a spectacularly effective start to a war - including during this weekend's aerial attack on Libya's air defences.

Thanks for the replies. I’m relieved. I mean, I’m glad to know there are facilities.
Its mission is to penetrate heavily defended enemy territory and 'kick down the door' on the opening night of a conflict. One of its special features is its ability to carry eight GBU-37 'bunker buster' bombs, weighing in at 2.27 tonnes that are capable of boring 20 to 30 ft of rock or reinforced concrete before detonating.
After the first wave of more than 110 Tomahawk missiles launched from allied warships in the Mediterranean, they struck yesterday morning on 'a variety of strategic targets over Libya', according to the US Air Force.
They dropped a total of 45 one-tonne satellite guided missiles on Libyan aircraft shelters before making the 5,709 mile journey back to the Missouri.

F-22,, F-23, whatever it takes.
This statement shows you know nothing about flying any type of aircraft, military or civilian...
Obama got orders from the UN. We no longer control our military.
Wasn't even that good a poing, was it?
“Yall need to stop acting like whiny Democrats....”
Word.
Oh, they're impressed all right...by the amount of interest they'll get for loaning us the money to carry out this idiocy.
——That graphic shows that it just cannot be very cost-effective to fly 12,000 miles to drop a 2000 pound bomb from a billion dollar aircraft onto some 28 year old ex-Soviet BMP troop carrier that can be bought surplus from some guy in Poland on eBay Motors for $4500 equivalent in zlotkies, or whatever currency they use.——
Considering that my Armed Forces are flying our CF-18’s over Libya right now, I’m totally glad you guys decided to use the B2 to drop some heavy shit on those SAM sites instead of risking our 20-million dollar aircraft and airmen!
This Canadian says “Much respect USAF!”

First thing that came to my mind as well...
God bless them for doing their job and coming back in one piece.
I do believe I heard an unusual level of traffic from Beale AFB, CA, three nights ago...
Zero?
WOW!!!
See my original remark to you... This statement shows you know nothing about flying any type of aircraft, military or civilian...
Not that I agree that we should be bombing Libya at this point in time, I do want to point out that Airforce pilots are Officers and do not take an oath to obey orders like the non commissioned service members.
“I, (full name) having been appointed a (rank), United States Air Force, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter, SO HELP ME GOD.”
Well i allready said that i know nothing about flying a plane!
But again “sorry” that i won´t admit that flying a B-2 from north america to europe is more dangerous than flying a civillian boeing.
It´s the same!!! If your engines don´t fail and the pilot doesn´t deside to crash it into the ocean NOTHING will happen!
Because of the simple fact that NO ONE will attack you!
Interesting. Thanks for the rest of the story.
I, personally, could never swear to the oath to obey orders in an absolute sense. Maybe 98% of the time, but not 100..
So, what was the expense to US taxpayers to bomb a sovereign state to secure oil for the Europeans.
Let the Libyans handle their own internal affairs.
Well said. Our brave military doesn’t pick its civilian leaders, nor the missions those leaders want to execute.
Our job as citizens is to ensure that our awesome military is led by well-principled leaders. Instead of whining and claiming that the military needs to refuse orders (good lord) let’s make sure we do everything we can to make 2012 the year it turns around.
