Very simple. There was pork on the menu. They couldn’t very well eat the beef and chicken and pass on the pork.
during the campaign he stopped at a famous BBQ pork joint in South Carolina and ordered chicken.

...obama and the first family made a very unusual request for their first-ever visit to this meat-loving country: they asked for a vegetarian menu. Alienating, well, everyone... I've been to some Brazillian themed restaurants. Where they bring the meat to the table on a skewer and slice off as much as you want...and they just keep coming back with selection after selection until you finally say "enough!" :-) Very meat-heavy diet (at least at the restaurants), and very very good!
