Mitt Romneys supporters on Capitol Hill are giving him political cover for the healthcare plan he signed into law as governor, even as his competitors for the GOP presidential nomination ramp up their attacks on RomneyCare.
Romneys healthcare reform initiative in Massachusetts is viewed as one of his biggest political liabilities going into the Republican primary, due to its similarities to President Obamas healthcare overhaul.
But leading conservatives, including supporters of Romney during his 2008 presidential run, argue that the Massachusetts plan isnt a deal-breaker.
One of the reasons I endorsed Romney [in 2008] is his attempts to make private health insurance available at affordable prices, said Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), a GOP kingmaker.

pissant has been banned. Consider #52 as his FR legacy.
My wife made crab cakes, I pulled a few pounds of salmon out of the freezer...some of my best home smoked stuff.
The steamer clams are in the pot. I have Champagne and beer on ice.
I even went out to the barn and brought in our New Years Eve noise makers. I don’t have any fireworks, so I’ll have to use my flairs out of the boat.....
All of this has been waiting on the confirmation.
THANK YOU... It’s PARTY TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're gonna throw DeMint under the bus for one statement he backtracked on? I'm not.
And if you actually read what I said, I never defended DeMint for his statement.
Excellent!
Har!
I was reading your post and thought you were ending it as a party in the admin moderator’s honor and with the moderator being the guest of honor. Can you do your post over, again, and use my ending? ;)
Health care -- more accurately, health insurance -- costs have risen in part because of people thinking the government has the power to lower them. Markets are independent, dynamic forces that will always elude control of a centralized force; markets, like butterflies, must be free to thrive. It's a fact of life, just like water is wet and kittens and puppies grow up. It is beyond our control -- only a mindset of pompous presumption or amoral intent attempts to manipulate it.
The ONLY way the government can lower health insurance and health care costs is by GETTING OUT OF THE WAY. There is another dynamic, too, that is behind forcing up the costs of health care, as it is behind forcing the imaginary nonsense of "alternative energy like wind and algae! We need to get on it now!", as the clearly-intelligent-liberal-female-college-student-sounding person urgently warns in one of Chevron's current radio ads.
Health care costs are going up because an advertising campaign is scaring the hell out of Americans every day and convincing them that they're in grave danger every instant of their lives and need considerable "health care" to make sure they live to their next decade. It's disgusting.
The government nanny-state good-mother presumption of providing all of this is fueled by the fear campaign. It's a potent duo.
Conservatism should not equal heartlessness.
You want heartlessness???!!??? How about millions of good Americans enduring jobs they hate and fear abject abandonment solely because they don't want to lose their "health benefits."
In a free market, health insurance and health care would be affordable to the level of the demand in the self interst of all concerned. In a market regulated heavily by government and marketing campaigns for products, currently so-called "health care" and "alternative energy!" that are ultimately tax subsidised, you have a frightened people who are slaves to an illusion.
THAT is heartlessness. Conservatives support true charities more tha liberals because they are of right and moral compassion. The real cruelty and brutality is fomenting a situation where free people are slaves to fear.
LOL... How about we do both.
I feel like the pain of a root-canal has finally worn off. LOL
The Founders despised professional politicians, and GEORGE WASHINGTON led by example.
Too bad so few have followed his lead, and even more ridiculous his philosophy with respect to the apparatchiks has not been enforced by "GOP LEADERSHIP"
LOL! I’m taking it as the luck of the Irish. Maybe I’ll have a beer and a potato and celebrate.
Now wouldn’t it be great if tomorrow Sarah announced she’s running! LOL!
Finally! Free at last - free at last - thank God Almighty, we're free at last!!!
If he doesn't know he's wrong, then like with Romney, true conservative principle sails right over his head. It's beyond his grasp. End of story.
JUST PERFECT!!!!!!!
Caution, in the Falcon Party backyard *Tree House and Meeting Room* sits a solitary figure plotting and scheming :^)
That is just plain beautiful writing. :^) A little shimmering painting in words.
See post above.
LOL!
I’m with you, if he has to be told, surely it’s beyond his grasp.
It isn't about "one statement." It's about a fundamental failure to grasp a core conservative principle.
