Reuter's Breaking Headline only at this time...
(Excerpt) Read more at live.reuters.com ...
More filtering of the news. In this case, get an EU Energy Commissioner, who has not been to Japan, to make a statement that supports Reuters' political agenda.
Let's get some fact, not some conjecture from someone 10,000 miles away.
Yes, he apparently hadn’t time to pack his suit jacket with the shoulder pads, either.
1556: Kyodo is reporting new plumes of smoke coming from the building housing reactor three.
TEPCO is lying or understating how bad it is. They are not to be trusted either.
Of course there’s core damage! Otherwise there’d be no need to pump seawater into those units. The question is how much and if it’s contained.
I love the smell of Euroweenie fearmongering and hysteria! It's like victory.
I keep waiting for Reuters to tell us that Godzilla has arrived in Kyoto.
No, they said he didn’t have any privileged information. But he doesn’t need any secret information to figure out that the situation is effectively out of control. This man and his expert staff figured that out from publicly available information and news video. In my view, the Japanese government is substantially understating the severity of this situation at the power plant.
How will you know?
Don’t worry, the media will surely find a way to pin this on Bush! The won is conveniently “black” so its not his fault.
You are so right.
The nuke experts most talking heads quote are anti-nuke activists (Google some and see).
Gad, when I saw California running out of Potassium Iodide tabs, all I could think was, “Typical!”
They missed the Japanese translation.... the word “temporarily” was missed...
There’s substantial quantities of plutonium and associated isotopes in 3’s MOX fuel.
The only people who really know the situation are those dedicated men on site trying to keep things under control.
God bless and protect them.
This jerk is talking out of his ass. Figures Rueters would be quick to run with this kind of unsubstantiated fear mongering.
No, he said he didn't have any privileged or specific information. That means he has no information that can tell him this is "out of control."
He's full of crap. Even if the next thing we hear about this plant is that it's Chernobyl II and it's spreading radiation all over northeastern Japan, Gunther won't be right, he'll just be a fool with a title, because he doesn't know anything and makes a pronouncement anyway.
This man and his expert staff figured that out from publicly available information and news video.
Really? Can you list his staff members and their qualifications? How can an analysis of information leave him with "no specific information" that supports his assertion?
In my view, the Japanese government is substantially understating the severity of this situation at the power plant.
And your qualification to make that assessment is...? Are you as qualified as Gunther's staff?
On FR the past few days I have been annoyed by the sudden appearance of dozens of world-class experts on nuclear power, some saying "everything is fine" without having any reason to be so sure. But the most annoying part of all is the legions of freepers who are predicting nuclear apocalypse based on no knowledge at all, parroting with wide-eyed innocence the pronouncements of a media that depends on drama for ratings and lies to us on a regular basis about the level of danger from technologies. alar on apples, anyone? Road rage? Summer of the Shark?
It's time for us to grow up and stop being suckers.
What are the facts? Again and again and again what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what the stars foretell, avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable verdict of history what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!
Robert A. Heinlein
Well worth remembering, and by one of my favorite authors no less.
“When his mascara starts to MELT, it’s time to break out the iodine pills.”
Source of that info?
