The USGS CA earthquake map shows no major new activity:

(The map updates automatically based on time you load this page, not when I posted it.)

I would imagine we will wake up to work of a 7+ quake

Really?

They are listed right here

The map doesn’t show everything

Lots of it to be sure. Jimmy Carter banned reprocessing spent fuel rods and there is no permanent storage site, thanks to Harry Reid and the “american left”. You have vast pools of spent rods over there.

Question: do you know what companies in Japan do construction, or heavy equipment, or mold / flood remediation, or supply KI, or nuclear hazmat suits?

For some reason, I'm tempted to buy a sh*tload of their stock...

g_w

Full Dislosure: on Friday night, some prescient FReeper was already screaming "SHORT TEPCO".

If my money wasn't in IRAs (so I could short), I'd have done that.

Prayers up, btw.

Quakes in California! And people were seen fleeing Eureka! Of course, the reporter was standing next to the outbound lanes of 101....

It’s educational to go look at some of the news streams on the latest event. The power company announced they were pulling back workers temporarily. The MSM reporting, AP, etc. immediately dropped the word “temporarily”. This afternoon, MSNBC was running a headline on “Panic in the streets in Tokyo”. I’d say we’re about a day away from that ole’ shark jump.

“They’ll save their people by abandoning the plant but expect us to sacrifice our military to save them.”

Oh stop. They’ve asked for help, probably meaning equipment. What a horrible thing to say.

Yes, it does, for CA, you threadcrapper. If you're viewing the thread on 3/15/11 @9:20PM PDT, you'll see the two SMALL red squares on the USGS CA Earthquake map, north of the SF Bay Area.

Those are the SMALL, normal activity quakes you posted in your threadcrap further up on the thread.

We have to be prepared for quakes, but drumming up impending doom does no-one any good.

Given that they have been at the plant for some time now, they need to reduce rad exposure

We don't even know if they are rotating in different crews after their badge readings hit a certain dose.

Vermont Yankee has 690 tons of spent fuel rods on site.

Read it as you like

All I said was that there were two quakes in California
Also 2 in the Gulf Of California - 5 something measured.

Just staying the facts. Nothing more - nothing less.

Plutonium is an alpha emitter.

They should be able to shield against both alpha and beta radiation particles.

"I'm very pro nuke but that statement is too much" BS...

Passive as in it's a brick, no moving parts required, ie...no dependency on external power to cool or stabilize.

Here's a question, what happens when a 747 hits a gust not anticipated by 14CFR25.561 ???

400 plus dead. That is at least 400 more then will be hurt by 4 obsolete reactors in full meltdown. This is media hype. Life is scary, engineering can only insulate you so much from the wilds.

How often has Japan see tsunamis of this size? And since we should all freak out now, how about someone tell us exactly what the radiation level is, what isotope it is associated with (if it is), and...is it alpha, beta, or gamma radiation...it kinda matters.
