The building looks much worse than the other one. The walls were blown off right to the ground. More people ordered evacuated from the 20 km zone.

For good news, no tsunami from the 6.6 quake.

I’m watching FNC and I’m getting really tired of the Riverkeeper cockroaches screaming about the end of the world. It’s a good thing that they don’t live down here in the Philly area because unless they quickly grew a pair they’d find themselves curled up in a corner and sucking their thumbs in panic.

We have nuclear plants and refineries here out the yin-yang. It’s not a problem. We’re too far inland and too far north for hurricane damage, too far south for major blizzards, WAY too hilly for the tornadoes they get out west, and we’re too far inland for tsunamis (not to mention the fact that the Atlantic is an expansion zone). And if the greens can feel the 2.x quakes from the Trenton faults then they should be working for the USGS because they would have to be WAY more sensitive than most homo-sapiens.

Long story short, we have all that energy infrastructure here because it makes sense to put it here — things just don’t get that bad here. We do get localized flooding when we get a lot of rain, so it means that you want to live on a hill like I do, but it also means that wildfires are also not much of an issue (except for the NJ pine barrens, but there also aren’t any reactors or refineries there).

There is only one issue with all that stuff here, which is that we have to be really on our toes when it comes to security. Otherwise, if the energy companies want to put another reactor or refinery in this area, fine. At least the ground stays where you left it.

"...Please God, let us all pray for the safety of the brave workers at these plants."

Prayers up in Jesus' name for all these heroes fighting in what must seem like the bowels of hades right now. For wisdom, insight and practical sense in the face of danger. May they prevail. Amen.

“I’m watching FNC and I’m getting really tired of the Riverkeeper cockroaches screaming about the end of the world. “

Fox has had every left wing, anti nuke person on they could find.
CNN has done a good job with some actual experts on, who work in the industry.
Also Fox just looks like amateur hour in most other ways covering this story. Their lack of resources is very obvious.

Isn’t this the reactor with the uranium and plutonium fuel?

That was my understanding yesterday.

Yes, I've been very disappointed in the FNC coverage.

From the live shots it seems that they are continuing to vent steam.

#3 building. Gov't says containment and reactor are undamaged. 600 residents still inside the 20km evacuation zone are told to stay INDOORS just in case but there's no data suggesting a radiation leak.

FNC is better for everyday news, but CNN KILLS them on “major event” news like this.

Agree. This is not a funny situation in any way. Many other situations we talk about here are worth making fun of.
But this is a horrible situation in multiple ways.

“Fox is confirming it was a hydrogen explosion in the outer containment building. Serious but not unexpected, and believe it or not the reactor remains under control.”

—Of interest:

“New explosion reported at nuclear plant”:

UPDATE: TOKYO — Japan’s chief cabinet secretary says a hydrogen explosion has occurred at Unit 3 of Japan’s stricken Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant. The blast was similar to an earlier one at a different unit of the facility...

Edano says the reactor’s inner containment vessel holding nuclear rods is intact, allaying some fears of the risk to the environment and public.

The No. 3 Unit reactor had been under emergency watch for a possible explosion as pressure built up there following a hydrogen blast Saturday in the facility’s Unit 1...

..Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said Sunday that a hydrogen explosion could occur at Dai-ichi’s Unit 3, the latest reactor to face a possible meltdown. That would follow a hydrogen blast Saturday in the plant’s Unit 1.

“At the risk of raising further public concern, we cannot rule out the possibility of an explosion,” Edano said. “If there is an explosion, however, there would be no significant impact on human health.”
