Whats in your wallet?
Not much especially after a trip to the supermarket.
At the checkout counter at the DAgostino in Hells Kitchen, retired ballerina Carol Sumner shook her head over the increasingly steep price of her weekly grocery bill.
Its outrageous, said Sumner, a senior citizen who was making a pit stop to buy soda, ice cream and cake for a party she was throwing.
I feel like I am getting fleeced and taken advantage of. I dont buy meat anymore. I cant. Its too expensive.
The price index for groceries is expected to surge 3 to 4 percent nationally this year, according to the US Dept. of Agriculture.

You are being grossly unfair. You've posed to me a ton of questions, answering which required great many details. I spent hours writing detailed replies. Even if I were to forget one question, that would not indicate any disrespect to you, would it?
What you said is not only unfair but also false: I did answer your question yesterday, and did so fully in post #137:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2687791/posts?page=137#137
Now what? Are you going to apologize for being unfair to me, who'd been patiently and respectfully answering your questions for hours? Probably not: it's so much easier to assume the worst about people, right?
You seem to have a pattern of you are so much more intelligent than everybody else
Thank you, but I've never said that myself. This is not about you or me but something much more important: knowing who our true enemies are. I would not waste a minute of my time or yours on proving myself, attacking you or trying to win some silly battle.
and they have no legit complaints.
As I stated several times during our discussion yesterday, I am all for legitimate complaints against; I would like to see all perps of wrongdoing punished. If the woman quoted in the article showed who "takes advantage" of her with higher prices, I would consider her complaints legitimate. I would agree also if someone showed how oil companies were "gouging" when gas was $4 / gallon.
No, these are not legitimate complaints: this is ignorance about how the country works. And it is divisiveness when we need to unite against true, not imaginary, enemies.
Why do you bother with us retards?
So far, I have not met a single retard. I did encounter over the last couple of years, however, misdirected anger and leftist propaganda that got under the skin of some people. I do speak out against that. I thought I made all this quite clear during our lengthy discussion yesterday. Apparently not. Sorry about that.
Not picking on you, I’m just using your post as a chance to illustrate what has happened in agriculture in the last few years.
I would like you to note that just a few of years ago, when the complaint here on FR and elsewhere was that the farmers were being paid not to plant, food prices were at their lowest level in the history of humankind. And farmers were in a constant state of poverty and dependant on government just to stay in business.
Now they are receiving a fair return on their investment and labor from the open market. And, for the most part, they no long want any part of the government handouts; instead they are planting every square foot they can. No more payment not to grow crops.
The consumer got what they wished for, few or no farm subsidies. Now the consumer is REALLY unhappy.
Careful what you wish for.
***It is institutional quality though, so cavet emptor..lol!***
I remember the quality we had in the military. I do believe newspaper would be better.
I am glad there are a few who understand what is happening. You and I know what the outcome is going to be and it is not what the POLs tell us.
My family has farmed in this county for over 110 years. We are about to reverse the “Green Ag Revolution” that allowed us to defeat Parson Malthus and feed the world.
Now the Universities have sold out to Corporate Ag Breeders and HR2751 will seal the deal. My congressman voted against the bill and told me he had real problems with it, but it exempted “small producers”. But what he did not say and I knew was that it did not exempt “small processors”. If you do anything with farm produce you are under the FDA Food Takeover.
It is time again for the home garden and home food production. That was the only solution that made any sense, but the federal regulators want to end that, they just don’t want to tell you they do.
It is TIME to DownSize DC!!
THAT is the only solution to the mess we are in....
I hereby thereto therefore fully apologize.
I do not have the time at this moment to reply but will later.
Most of the fresh produce in my supermarket is from Mexico, Chili, or Peru, so I think trade rules and regulations have effected food prices just about as much and I live in Oregon! I think U.S. policies, laws, etc. all have an effect on our food prices going up. I don’t think it is any one policy change, but numerous ones.
That is truw, I am sure they will blame it on something else.
You and I, and every other Freeper who has an understanding of the problem, has an obligation to help educate those Freepers who are ignorant of 'the food/farm problem.
Hmm, the NYT is to expensive to use as TP...lol!
Phone books work well.
***...DAgostino Market***
No wonder Charles Bronson wasted two punks on a subway who wanted what he had! D’Agistino must be a high, high dollar store!
Then he left his goods behind as he got off the subway!
Have bought several 50 pound bags of rice...and wheat...and oats...and even popcorn. Figured I should buy before the prices get too high. I even have bought a lot of cases of TP...just in case :)
I am very thankful that we put a steer on pasture last year...he will be going into the freezer this fall. Along with the lambs that are being born...five so far in the last two days.
Here's real Ebonomics (courtesy of your tax dollars):
The process to qualify for Lifeline Service depends on the State you live in. In general, you may qualify if
. You already participate in other State or Federal assistance program such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid. OR
. Your total household income is at or below of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal Government. AND
. No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.
. You have a valid United States Postal Address. In order for us to ship you your free phone you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the US Post Office. Sorry, but P.O. Boxes cannot be accepted.
In addition to meeting the guidelines above you will also be required to provide proof of your participation in an assistance program, or proof of your income level.
I am very thankful that I picked up a young bull calf and put him onto pasture...he will be my beef in the fall.
And we have only seen the beginning. When Saudi Arabia goes up later this month, we will be seeing $5-$7/gal gas, $7/gal diesel, and then everything else will go up. And, that’s if we don’t get any hurricanes in the Gulf.
I agree with you on everything except that we should stop using corn to create fuel. Why?
Because corn (maize) is a very poor source of nutrition. It makes better sense to use it as animal fodder.
Corn syrup? No, the items that use it are better left off of everyone’s diet!
If there is one beneficial result of this crisis, hopefully it will that less people buy prepackaged food and start eating sensibly.
You wanted “hope and change”, crybabies. Sit down, shut up, and suck it up.
maybe this is how they plan on enforcing the new Michelle Obama diets .. you know where we eat less per serving?
So, all this alarm is over an increase that corresponds to a normal rate of inflation?
Get real.
