The story quickly climbed The Timess most emailed list but not just because of the sensational facts of the crime involved. Vicious Assault Shakes Texas Town, published on Tuesday, reported the gang rape by 18 boys and men of an 11-year-old girl in the East Texas town of Cleveland.
The viral distribution of the story was, at least in part, because of the intense outrage it inspired among readers who thought the piece pilloried the victim.
My assessment is that the outrage is understandable. The story dealt with a hideous crime but addressed concerns about the ruined lives of the perpetrators without acknowledging the obvious: concern for the victim.
While the story appeared to focus on the communitys reaction to the crime, it was not enough to simply report that the community is principally concerned about the boys and men involved as this story seems to do. If indeed that is the only sentiment to be found in this community and I find that very hard to believe it becomes important to report on that as well by seeking out voices of professional authorities or dissenting community members who will at least address, and not ignore, the plight of the young girl involved.
Lets consider the particulars:
The story by James C. McKinley Jr. reported that residents of the town noted the girl dressed older than her age, wore makeup and fashions more appropriate to a woman in her 20s and hung out with older boys at the playground.
The story also quoted one resident, saying, Where was her mother? What was her mother thinking?
Referring to some of the defendants in the case, the same resident was quoted saying, These boys have to live with this the rest of their lives.

I guess. I wasn’t at all surprised that they’d be outraged about this. “Feminism” and issues relating to women and girls aren’t really represented and presented by N.O.W. That organization is a failure and a dinosaur, for the most part.

I think this is the same genius who wrote the story on Ft Hood saying how we can’t figure out a motive.
Well.
That sure was a buzz kill....:-|
On the upside, I’m sure they’ll meet many friendly Hispanics in prison.
Heck, they might even throw those maggots a party one night when nobody’s looking.
[’cause sometimes, the guards “get distracted”, ya know?]
So?...Let's examine two points:
1) Just how much time do parents have to undo the GODLESS indoctrination in secular humanism that children receive in the government temples ( oops! "schools")?
Even teens need 9 to 10 hours of sleep. The youngest children need 11 to 12 hours.
Add to that 1 to 2 or more hours just traveling to and from school on the prison bus ( oops! "school bus") in which they will be in the company of other children who have been indoctrinated to think godlessly.
When they return home from their godless school they will need 1 or 2 for large muscle exercise and play ( again often in the company of children schooled in the godless schools).
There is homework using materials written by secular humanists who push a godless worldview. That is another 1 to 2 hours or more.
If adults, after their busy day would enjoy an hour or two to chat with friends through the Internet, phone, or texting, or zone out watching TV then children would too! ( Children though will most likely be socializing with friends who have also been indoctrinated to think and reason godlessly in their godless government temples ( oops! "schools") of secular worship.
Oh!...And forget any meaningful bonding time with the parent during the hectic morning rush to get the kids ready for school.
Now throw in a few afterschool activities: theater ( Vagina Monologues anyone? ), dance, music lessons, sports..etc..often in the company of other godlessly indoctrinated kids.
So?...Where is this wonderful bonding time that parents have to undo the government proselytizing of children in godless secular worship? Hm?
2) And....Why should parents be forced to undo the damage of the government proselytizing of their children in the government religion of godless secular humanism? Why should the taxpayer be forced to pay for the ESTABLISHMENT of the government religion of godless secular humanist worship?
The religious bias found in government schooling can NOT be fixed! IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A RELIGIOUSLY NEUTRAL EDUCATION!
A school can either be godless or God-centered in its worldview. Neither is religiously neutral in content or consequences for the child or the nation.
There is only one possible solution: We must start the process of completely privatizing universal K-12 education. Conservatives MUST MUST MUST work to see that every child in the nation has access to a conservative PRIVATE education that thoroughly upholds the child's specific Judeo Christian beliefs and our nation's founding principles.
And..Yeah!...I am shouting, jumping up and down, and having a fit. Unless the government temples of godless secular worship are shut down our nation is doomed. I seriously believe this.

Sounds like Maureen Dowd.
NY Times Story About Gang Rape Story Lacking Balance Lacks Balance (says Texas Eagle).
: )
Crazy, wasn’t it?
“somehow, the schools are to blame... my children don’t rape”
Agreed! Parents have to be held to a higher form of responsibility. NOT ALL public school kids are sociopaths like these boys/men. I have a high school boy who doesn’t drink alcohol/do drugs, volunteers at a nursing home, says prayers before meals (yes, at school), doesn’t hurt people etc... In fact, he got in trouble by the school recently for stepping up to a bully who was picking on a small freshman boy. Granted, he could have said something better than, “If you want to push someone around, try it on someone who isn’t 5 feet tall” but you get the point. Meanwhile, the neighborhood boy who goes to a Catholic high school was arrested last month for destroying over 60 mailboxes in our neighborhood. It goes back to the parents... plain and simple. IMHO
I don’t think the sources of slaves at the time had much exposure to Islam (though they do now); the slaves certainly didn’t mind eating pork, and spoke no language related to Arabic (and the Koran can’t be translated). Also, the actual taking of slaves from Africa ended long before slavery was outlawed.
Malcolm X actually lost some of his racist zeal when he went to Mecca; until then he never realized there were white Muslims (he met them from Turkey, Bosnia, Albania, etc.), and they didn’t give him the Jim Crow treatment. After he returned he knew blacks were the source of many of their own problems, and told them so.
Think of it as a maturing furuncle. The secular inflammation had been festering since at least my grandmother and Hemingway's day. The abscess merely burst in the late 60s and 70s.
The earliest modern government schools ( mid-1800s to early 1900s) offered up a Protestantism that was sufficiently generic and lukewarm that a majority of voters could tolerate it. While the majority of citizens may have swallowed it, we know what Christ does with the lukewarm. He spits them out of His mouth!
The problem **is** having government schools. The problems started the very first day a modern government school opened.
This week my husband and I watched the movie "In Love and War" about the war years of Ernest Hemingway. It prompted me to think about his books. He was the contemporary of my grandmother. Hemingway was born 1899 and my grandmother in 1894.
My grandmother and father ( born 1913) attended secular government schools. There was a **HUGE** difference between their government educations and that of my Catholic mother and me.
Think about the themes in Hemingway's novels and those of the "Lost Generation" regarding marriage and sexuality. Would Mark Twain or Charles Dickens have written this way? That Hemingway and others of his generation choose to write in this manner reflects their godlessly secular education. The little sprinkle of prayer or scripture in the morning their schools may have offered up, was like aiming a water pistol at raging godless forest fire.
If children attend schools that teach them to think and reason godlessly, they WILL learn to think and reason godlessly. In the very best of circumstances, with strong parents in the home, they might learn to compartmentalize their faith.
please read my posts #124 and #130.
Probably six, if you line em just right. Ya gotta keep in mind that these are hard times now and we need to conserve. Plus this would placate the environmentalists since lead is a pollutant.
In the best of circumstances they will learn to compartmentalize their faith.
Government schools that are godless in their worldview **WILL** have serious consequences for our nation, even if some individual children and their parents are able to overcome the proselytizing.
So?...Why on earth should parents be under police and court action threat to send their children to godless government schools?
Why should any child by proselytizing by the government into the godless religion of secular humanism?
Why should taxpayers be forced to support the establishment of the godless religion of government secular humanism?
There is a solution: Begin the process of privatizing all government education on every level.
“Begin the process of privatizing all government education...”
I don’t have a problem with that. However, parents have more authority/power over how their kids turn out than they think. Believe me, some of the stuff that my kids come home and tell me can make one crazy. However, they know it is bunk and laugh at it. “In the best of circumstances they will learn to compartmentalize their faith”. Not necessarily. Faith and religion comes directly from the parents and their church. My kids wear crucifixes daily, pray before lunch at school and are good Christians. There is even a bible study at the local public high school. I know... that confused me but it is well attended by Christians of the school.
why should any parent be forced to use these abominations misnamed "schools". Why should the taxpayer be forced to pay for it. They never were, and never can be religiously neutral.
However, they know it is bunk and laugh at it. In the best of circumstances they will learn to compartmentalize their faith. Not necessarily.
Yes, there are children who can and do overcome the godless indoctrination. But...While they are in the government schools they will learn to think and reason godlessly. They have to merely to participate in the class and complete assignments.
“They have to merely to participate in the class and complete assignments”.
Okay, I have had some issues there. However, the grade wasn’t affected. My son has an honors English teacher who said that Hitler wasn’t anti-Jewish, he was simply a politician. Hitler didn’t “really hate Jews”. My son stood up and said that it was the most offensive statement he ever heard. He further stated that “you can’t kill 6 million Jews and have it said that you don’t HATE Jews”. So, yes, many public school teachers are nut jobs. They can “dislike” a student for not agreeing with them. Currently, we have one science teacher who is a vegan/PETA person. She hates the students who eat meat or wear leather.
That last will happen at about the same time as subzero temperatures in Hades.
No one should be called racist for pointing out the glaringly obvious. Sadly, that is what happens when race-baiters like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are the ones setting the parameters of what passes for honest dialogue on race in this country. The only things they want to hear is that blacks are the victims and whites are the villans.
Wintertime, I happen to be Jewish (schooled in Catholic and Anglican schools, but consciously, worshipfully Jewish), but I’d be very, very proud to build a neighborhood with you and raise my kids alongside yours.
Thank you very very much.
