They've had a LOT of extra rain and snow out there this season. If that all sinks into the ground at once and makes a nice mud slurry that greases up those joints where the Atlantic Plate and Pacific Plates are hung up on one another could cause a slip and WHAMO -
After living out there for a decade and a couple good shakers, I decided if I didn't want to be there for the Big One, I'd best get back home to New England.
Now I live in a quiet patch of forest, not worrying abut quakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, no flooding in my area, etc. Just winters. But with my wood stove and snowshoes - I got the least to worry about.
Some idiot will probably blame the earthquakes on the fracking of shale gas and oil wells in the US! They will demand an ONSHORE drilling “moratorium”, to go along with Herr Obama’s offshore drilling ban!

Many were over 7.0
THOSE are good size shakers all on their own...
You fell outta your chair..I had just told a good friend of mine that I sensed SOMETHING big was going to happen 5 days ago....OF course she just shrugged it off! WOW!! God is trying super hard to get our attention and I’ll tell you HE HAS MINE!!! 100% focus...100%!!!
There was a well-known astronomer, who’s name escapes me, who poo-pood this theory, mainly because of this week’s phase of the moon — the gravitational pull is actually the weakest of the month.
The closest analogy I have is Calvin and Hobbes:
NO cheers, unfortunately. Prayers up for Japan.
How much of an impact was there from the tsunami though? Don’t get me wrong...I am praying it’s a low number!
On Feb 12, Tonga had a 6.1. Who noticed?
There was a 6.6 south of Fiji Islands on February 21.
But instead, people noticed the 6.3 that hit so close to Christchurch.
And, in fact, there was a 6.2 off Russia's coast the day before that.
Anyone notice the 6.5 and 6.6 in the Celebes Sea on Feb 10?
No? But they noticed the 6.8 off Chile on Feb 11.
My ten year old was watching the coverage this morning on the earthquake and tsunami. He shakes his head and says, “Man am I glad we live in the desert now”. He lived the first half of his life just outside Pacifica, CA.
When the moon is at first or last quarter, it kind of balances out the sun’s pull on the earth.
When it’s new or full, it’s lined up with the earth and the sun, instead of off to the side.
That is why high tides are highest at full moon and next highest at new moon and the lowest high tides are at the first and last quarter.
If the proximity of the moon to the earth is going to do anything to the earth, it theoretically should happen about the time of the full moon, the end of next week when the earth is experiencing the gravitational pull of the sun in one direction and the gravitational pull of the moon in the opposite direction.
Although I still have a fair distance from that cesspool...and the Canadian border into New Brunswick - which is more like Maine than the rest of Canada - is just a hope, skip and a jump - through the woods, if need be ;o)
Actually weakest pull fits better for my sensitivity...when the barometric pressure drops and the area pressure is less I feel aches and pains in my joints because it increases soft tissue swelling which I generally have a problem with and I have taken NSAIDS since 1976. Many have this sort of reaction. Every now and then I sense something less blatant but all over, a level of physiologic tension that initially is ignored but as it continues day after day I’ve noticed geological phenomena seem to occur when I experience this. Maybe it is just a weird coincidence.
Yep, He certainly has mine too. Keep watching the wildlife and animals around you.
