Call it patriotic adultery.
Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has claimed that he had an affair with a colleague because his love of country made him work too hard. The twice-divorced Republican politician was married to his second wife Ginther when he embarked on an affair in the mid-90s with blonde Castilla Bisek, who is 23-years his junior.

'There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate,' Gingrich told The Christian Broadcasting Network.

No....double facepalm.
“There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate.”
Yeah, that’s much better. Maybe he should make that his campaign slogan.

Face it, this is not a good thing to say.
Like Bill Clinton, Newt had “never worked so hard in (his) entire life”, for the nation of course. LOLOLOL It might have been better for ‘ol Newt to stay quiet about his prodigious efforts back in the day.... Bob
Get Religion has a good article about the press coverage on this. The interview itself was about God’s forgiveness.
I wonder if Newt got advice from Bill Clinton before giving this answer.
probably with Hillary.
I thought I had heard every lame excuse in the book. This beats them all, even “ the dog ate my even The dog ate my homework defense! defense!”
What I would like to know is who is telling Newt that he could win the presidency, and how much is Newt paying this individual
I hate to get myself into the mode of crawling around in clinton’s head but having said that here’s how I might respond:
As governor of AK I think clinton drilled everything in a dress, aided and abetted by the very handy state troopers.
Call me naive but I get the sense that once he moved into the WH he put a damper on most, maybe not all of the shenanigans. That is until Monica showed up with her thong and her blue dress.
And yes the government shutdown did play a documented role in how this all came together. I think a lot of this came out during the Starr hearings etc.
I agree with you insofar as the AK business went but I think my interpretation has some merit when it comes to the WH years. Else, I suspect we’d have somehow heard about more Monicas. There was that girl who’s husband died and went to the oval office looking for a handout but there’s no evidence that clinton “did” her.
None of that would make me jump his bones—not even a loaded gun to my head would do it—LOL!
LOL Great Post!
He prolly did, but rejected the idea as ridiculously lame.
Yeah -- Newt's excuse is so lame it makes "it depends what the meaning of 'is' is" look like genius.
Note that Grover Cleveland was able to survive the scandal because he manned up and told the unvarnished truth without trying to hide behind lame excuses.
If the stress of hard work makes it impossible for him to manage his personal life, then he ought to RETIRE and GO AWAY.
“Lie back and think of America....”
[sigh...]
This is one of my biggest concerns about Newt as a presidential candidate. The guy absolutely is good enough and smart enough for the job. But sometimes, he just says things that makes you go “WTF?”. And this is one of those times.
Because Sean's a fool and a tool of the GOP establishment.
Nutty Newt.
I dunno - I just read he converted - beats me how he gets around it...
But then how did Teddy Kennedy, et al, get served communion all these years?
Rules for thee but not for me...
LOL! That’s good! Very witty!
