Call it patriotic adultery.
Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has claimed that he had an affair with a colleague because his love of country made him work too hard. The twice-divorced Republican politician was married to his second wife Ginther when he embarked on an affair in the mid-90s with blonde Castilla Bisek, who is 23-years his junior.
(snip)
'There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate,' Gingrich told The Christian Broadcasting Network.

Watch the video above and you will see why Newt did what he did.
Newt sounds like a damned Democrat with this idiotic rationalization.
Even Charlie Sheen makes more sense!
“...> Good that he converted to Catholicism, tho...
Huh?
How can a thrice-divorced, thrice-married man take communion in a Catholic Church?...”
Oh, pulleeese... The Kenendys were/are in good standing.
“Gosh, Honey, I just love my country SOOOOOO much, I just HAD to go and bed that young blonde who works in Accounts Payable”
.....nope, don’t think she’ll buy that.....
Like a soldier diving on a live grenade, except the final bang is much more enjoyable.
Newt strikes be a brilliant but out of control. I don't want a presidential candidate with not merely feet of clay, but legs of clay also.
Well—I haven’t kept count—I was speaking of the blond young lady in the photo.......
The headline indicates that it is a direct quote. If the paper can’t produce evidence of that quote, then I’d consider this flat-out libel.
That said, I still stand by my description of Gingrich as slimy and stupid (at least in matters of his libido).
Isn’t anybody going to connect the dots? When Newt became speaker he was targeted by the RATS, including setting him up with a girl friend/shack job which he pretends to not be aware of the scam. He’s a worthless turdbucket far as I’m concerned.
Newt would have been better served had he just said he made mistakes and engaged in inappropriate behavior and has asked God for forgiveness and is attempting to live the rest of his life in a better way. And maybe he is but he did not articulate it very well.
I think Newt needs to do a sit down interview with somebody like Brit Hume and expound on this issue in a more forthright way. He needs to address his Nazi Pelosi thing and why he was bamboozled into backing Dede Scuzzafuvva even when he had to know he was on the wrong side. Americans are pretty forgiving if they think someone is being genuine. Otherwise he may as well forget it.
Newt for the good of the America you claim to love; DO NOT RUN FOR PRESIDENT.
Some day his current beard is going to get old and unpleasant looking. .. Better start planning for your escape now, Newt !!
The headline does not match what NG actually said. The headline commits a logical fallacy. NG said because he loved his country he worked too hard and because he worked too hard it lead to him having an affair.
That is not the same thing as saying I loved my country so I had an affair.
if a=b
and b=c
then a=c is a fallacy.
“...is what that attractive blond lady with which he had an affair saw in him?”
Money, power, free ride, nice hoetsl, vacations, first class travel, nice dinners, a nice house, etc etc.
The real statement isn’t any better.
“I just don’t understand how someone so bright can be so stupid”.
You can be book smart and morally corrupt. That is how I am seeing it. It is an excuse... he refuses to take responsibility for being an adulterer. He is blaming the fact that he works hard and therefore was taken advantage of. Give me a break. Just a thought
Actually it is. He was wrong to have the affair but he does not say he had it because he loved his country.
Beat me to it.
He was my Congressman at the time, I was bitterly disappointed in him.
“.... Newt did with Nancy on that loveseat...”
I think I just threw up a little.
