Sad thing is that the cuts will occur regardless of the passage of these bloated contracts and there will be substantially more layoffs and loss of services.
Which is why the offer by the unions of a “concession” on health insurance premiums and pension contributions was a sham. The unions are rushing to their hand picked and paid for school boards to lock in their benefits for two more years. If Walker gets his budget passed, this will mean heavy layoffs for teachers to balance the budgets in the individual districts. The one exception will be the Tech Colleges - they have the power to tax directly.
It’s for the children, that just happen to be adults and happen to be Unionized teachers who act like children.

I wonder how many of the new contracts have “evergreen” clauses, retaining the last-negotiated terms forever if a new contract is not negotiated?
Go ahead get those contracts in but lets remind the Unions that if the Federal government can negate contracts (GM and its creditors) then so can the State of Wisconsin or anyother state for that matter. I bet Eric Holder would have a field day if a state did this, though.
Sounds to me like a different kind of ‘hustle’.
On all levels of government, local, state, county, federal isn’t funny that all the paid holiday days off and the entities still manage to provide essential services such as emergency services and jails. But all of the slugs making up the majority of public sector employees cry that we will all be doomed if they are not at their do nothing positions.
Here in Illinois, Chicago and Crook County employees are getting the day off paid for Pulaski day.
