Fox News says the United States has deployed some Marines and two amphibious ships to help with the evacuations in Libya.
The news comes one day after the U.S. moved naval and air forces closer to Libya and said all options were open, including patrols of the North African nation's skies to protect its citizens from their ruler, Muammar Qaddafi.
The Obama administration is demanding that Gadhafi relinquish power immediately.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned that Libya is at risk of collapsing into a "protracted civil war" amid increasingly violent clashes between the two sides.
On Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice cast doubt on Qaddafi's sanity and ability to lead and said the international community will continue pressuring Qaddafi with embargos and sanctions until he steps down.

Thanks!
“Just help the opposition and rule the skies.” Perhaps that is all they plan to do. Would it be useful to land near Banghazi and supply munitions and training to the rebels? They might be providing support at the Tunisian border for people escaping as it seems to be heating up politically inside Tunisia. Last night I heard that 2,000 per hour were crossing that border. Might they help at the Egyptian border? There are many things they could be doing besides directly confronting Kaddafi’s forces, which sounds like a risky idea on so many levels.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Being a Marine Mom is scary sometimes. With this POS I am terrified. He does not value our Military Men & Women at all. May God Bless and Watch Over ALL that go over to that hell hole.

“Libya Collapsing” sounds like “My 1974 Plymouth Duster with 450,000 miles on it broke down”.
American troops are to be committed ONLY to places in which America’s security is at stake.
We have no dog in this fight.
But, then, when you’ve got an African moron for your president, you can expect promiscuous African involvements.
Hear! Hear!

Yeah I don’t see the point in sending our military in (aside from evacuating Americans.)
I don’t buy it that this revolution is about democracy.
It’s about the Muslim preachers there got tired with Gaddafi and want to replace him with someone even more fanatical.
Just keep your mule well fed.
Thank goodness you posted this! Everyone else has been posting like it was DU, for the US doing what it did in the Boxer Rebellion and in the Moroccan incident of 1904 (’Perdicaris Alive or Raisuli dead’). Obama is no TR, but he is what is in there.
NO BLOOD FOR OIL!
ONLY THE THREAT OF WMD’S JUSTIFY MILITARY ACTION!
WHERE’S THE OUTCRY FROM THE DEMS ON THIS ONE?
Ugh, I can’t stand hippies.
I'm not sure if it was for my mom, but it is for my sister. Couldn't be the CIC, could it? The Marine Corps survived Carter, 0bama too will pass.
Takes on to know one. Right Susan
Talk about your irony. Remember this? Guess those amphibious vehicles are needed after all. (Don’t count of any of the idiot suits in charge to get it.)

Gates wary of Marines amphibious vehicle spending

Gates Challenges Marine Corps Mission
The Marine Corps is facing a historic defeat at the hands of Defense Secretary Roberts Gates, and hardly anyone inside or outside the Corps seems to grasp what is happening. On January 6, Gates disclosed a series of proposed budget cuts that included termination of an amphibious vehicle the Marines have been developing for 15 years. He said the vehicle cost too much around $17 million per copy and that the service therefore should extend the life of existing amphibious vehicles while searching for a more affordable replacement...
...Its about the cost of the whole forcible entry mission at the heart of the modern Marine Corps identity, and the desire of competing claimants on the Pentagons budget to use that money for other purposes.”
