Fox News says the United States has deployed some Marines and two amphibious ships to help with the evacuations in Libya.
The news comes one day after the U.S. moved naval and air forces closer to Libya and said all options were open, including patrols of the North African nation's skies to protect its citizens from their ruler, Muammar Qaddafi.
The Obama administration is demanding that Gadhafi relinquish power immediately.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned that Libya is at risk of collapsing into a "protracted civil war" amid increasingly violent clashes between the two sides.
On Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice cast doubt on Qaddafi's sanity and ability to lead and said the international community will continue pressuring Qaddafi with embargos and sanctions until he steps down.

I guess whomever picked this boat didn’t bother to pass it by anyone with actual sea knowledge. I seem to recall a government organization they could have checked with. I think it’s called the Navy.

From link at #169, it was the 26th MEU aboard the Kearsarge but the bulk were deployed to Afghanistan. Where the embarked Marines are coming from now is unknown, to us of course. Since they will be flying over, it could be anywhere.
Clinton said “no option is off the table”, but since she wouldn’t know anything about the military ‘options’ if they kicked her in the ass that isn’t saying much.

Well, I almost asked “why” till I saw “evacuations”. I hope they and the ones they are trying to evacuate all get back out of there safely. This is probably NOT a good move, in all probability.......it could be interpreted as invasion...and probably WILL be. :(
