President Obama issued an executive order Friday evening that imposes immediate sanctions on Libyan ruler Muammar al Qaddafi, his sons and his accomplices in the slaughter of civilians. In a letter accompanying the order, Obama declared a national emergency over the situation.
"I have determined that the actions of Colonel Muammar Qaddafi, his government, and close associates, including extreme measures against the people of Libya, constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. The order declares a national emergency to deal with this threat," Obama wrote in the letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).
The executive order itself condemns the "wanton violence against unarmed associates" perpetrated by Qaddafi, his sons, his government, and his close associates. Effective immediately, all U.S.-based assets of Qaddafi and his four sons are to be frozen and transactions intended to move those assets are prohibited. The order allows the measures to be expanded to include any member of the Libyan government who are determined to be complicit in Qaddafi's brutality.
In a personal statement issued by the White House at the same time as the order, Obama referenced what he called the Libyan government's continued violation of human rights, brutalization of its people, and outrageous threats.
"By any measure, Muammar el-Qaddafi's government has violated international norms and common decency and must be held accountable," the statement read. "We will stand steadfastly with the Libyan people in their demand for universal rights, and a government that is responsive to their aspirations. Their human dignity cannot be denied."

Friday evening. The standard time to ensure that it stays out of the MSM. Wonder why they are being so shy?
If you look at the list of “national Emergency” catagories, it covers just about every aspect of our lives. Presidents have used it to freeze assets of out of favor dictators. but I agree, Zero is power drunk and he czan find ANY excuse to impose any number of these situations.
This administration scares the hell out of me. A few more mistakes could set the whole region on fire.
Sheesh, the Carter administration on steroids...

“Oh yeah, and he is also disbanding our legislature and supreme courts for national security reasons. /Sarc.”
He’s already effectively done that, this would just make it a formality. LOL.

Canada and the U.S. signed an agreement that paves the way for either nation to send troops across each others borders during an emergency. Some question why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.
Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, signed Feb. 14 in Texas.
The U.S. Northern Command publicized the agreement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.
The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.
All that's left is for Obama to boycott the 2012 Olympics.

I remember getting caught back in 74 in Detroit on a Sunday and no gas stations were open at all.
I managed to find a station on the Ohio Turnpike that was open.
Exactly. I lived through those days. I suspect that it will be much more difficult this time around.
Whatever it is, something very ugly is about to happen.
and I remember when the stations on the PA turnpike would only sell you enough gas to get to the next station
and when you got off the turnpike, you could only buy gas depending on the day and whether your license number ended in even or odd number
Hey, I think I got it. Are there any Christians to bomb in Libya? They must be the root of all the problems there. Those mooslims need protection you know.
Yeah those were some crazy times.
A lot of which helped idiot boy Jimmy Carter get elected.
Of course he made things worse.
No state dinner for you.
No travelling to Libya for us.
Oh, the inhumanity of it all.
It wasn’t the license FRiend, it was the inspection sticker.
I guess that’s the best our muslim can do.
In my area it was whether the last digit of the tag number was odd or even. I remember that well because my tag number at that time was the single number 4.
Azadi.
