DNC chairman: 'We're going to play for the big win' By Michael O'Brien - 02/26/11 11:40 AM ET

President Obama isn't playing for a narrow victory in his 2012 reelection effort, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tim Kaine promised Saturday.

Kaine, speaking to party members in Washington at the DNC's Winter Meeting, said that the president's reelection would kick off sometime in the second quarter of 2011.

That campaign wouldn't be looking, though, to eke out just enough electoral votes to put Obama over the top.

"We're going to play for the big win," Kaine told DNC members, to cheers. "We're going to play in every corner of this country."

Kaine explained that locating the party's 2012 convention in Charlotte, N.C. was part of that strategy. Obama won the state in 2008 despite its having voted mostly for Republicans in previous presidential elections. It may be tough to win again in 2012, but the DNC's decision to locate its convention there signals that Obama plans to play with an expanded map.

"We're going to go into territory that the other guy thinks is theirs," Kaine said.

Kaine also formally announced several developments within the DNC and campaign infrastructure as the reelection effort gets underway in Chicago.

As had previously been reported, the DNC's executive director, Jen O'Malley Dillon, will leave the DNC to work on the reelection. Patrick Gaspard will take her place as executive director at the DNC. Kaine also announced that the DNC's political director, Clyde Williams, will depart for private opportunities in New York.

Do NOT underestimate these guys. The GOP/Tea Party does so at their own peril. The D’s really ARE playing for the big win. They will do whatever it takes.

You cannot compare ‘10 to ‘12 or any national election. It’s a totally different ballgame. NOTE that the tea party did exceptionally well in House elections, well but not so well in Senate races. It’s easier to win within a more confined geographical/demographic area. The broader one’s horizons are expanded, the harder it is to win.

The troops O was not able to rouse to vote for others in ‘10 will be all gung ho for HIS reelection. And I really don’t know that the country as we’ve known it would survive not only another O term, but an O term where he walks in as a lame duck with absolutely nothing to lose.

One observation however as a Virginian. This makes me think Tim Kaine has no intention of challenging George Allen (or whomever) for the VA Senate seat.

I pray every day that God would strike Obama and his evil minions down and replace them with Godly men and women to get this country back on the right track.

They will pull out all the stops and every dirty trick they have. Lie, cheat, steal, anything makes it worth it for democrats. Even murder wouldn’t surprise me anymore.

The Dims expect to win 35-40 House seats (Which means Nancy Pelosi comes back), 3-4 Senate seats, and have Obama win with 8% popular vote.

"We're going to play in every corner of this country."

We always here this from presidential campaigns and it always ends up being B.S.

I don't think they'll hold Washington State and Oregon, much less pick up any Red States.

You cant win a landslide in a never ending recession, its just too difficult.
