Sarah Palin Wins On National Security, Mitt Romney Hurts On Social Issues
Time Magazine / CNN ^ | February 24, 2011 | Michael Scherer

Gallup keeps bringing the hits. Today it has a breakdown of early Republican primary polls by the top issues among potential voters. First the qualification: Primary polls this early are poor indicators of results. At this point in 2007, Rudy Giuliani led the GOP field and Hillary Clinton had a virtual lock on the Democratic nomination. But these polls do show us something about how the candidates are viewed, and whom they appeal to.

With that said, there are some notable results here. Mitt Romney still does badly among those who social issues as the biggest issue in 2012, as does Newt Gingrich. Perhaps more surprising, Sarah Palin wins among those voters who see national security and foreign policy as the most important issue.

Who the heck is this Romney guy people keep talking about and why should I care what he thinks?

Medved was pushing Huck on today’s show. Mitt won’t get to first base carrying Romneycare around his neck.

I suspect that none-of-the-above will be the GOP candidate for POTUS.

That person will need reasonably conservative credentials coupled with solid gubernatorial and/or business credentials. 2012 will be a pocketbook election.

She’s not washed up. The question is, is the GOP washed up? Because if they get behind anyone other than a constitutionalist and a conservative, this party will break.

It’s the only category she leads. I would think it has to do with Israel.

Those Huck numbers are comical. His real name must be “un-named Republican”.

If we’re gonna have a bass player run for president, I would MUCH prefer Gene Simmons. At least he’s got a good idea of how the world works and is a very savvy business man. Though he admits he f***s way too much for a man his age.

Here’s a youtube video of Sarah Palin’s campaign entrance welcome in Los Angeles. You might want to turn your volume down now.

Herman Cane is worth a look, but an admitted long shot. He can certainly electrify a crowd, his business background is a huge plus, he is common sense guy too, very approachable.

I will doubtless be pilloried for this comment; I don’t really give a damn.

Romney is a RINO.

Elect Romney and you’ll get “Obama-Lite”.

The truth of the matter is that the World’s Bankers and IMF cabal pretty much run things anymore; with Obama/Romney, they have a near clear playing field.

This is why some believe that the “tops” of the two parties are essentially operating as one organism. Experience has shown me that is nearly true. There wasn’t much separating Bush 1 and the Clintons and you’ll recall Bush 1 first spoke openly of the New World Order. Back in the ‘60’s Bush had a reputation of being a “Liberal” Republican a term that’s fallen into disuse. It’s largely been replaced with the term RINO.

The tops of the two parties, operating as one organism, appear to take their instructions from the likes of the Council on Foriegn Relations, the Rockefellers, and now possibly even Soros.

I’m also becoming of the opinion that the part of the political spectrum we used to call the “Center” has actually moved to the Left of Center. That’s rather interesting because it results in a Palin appearing to be severely Right of Center. 40 years ago she would have appeared to be operating from the Center.

Neither Hukcabee nor Palin can win a national election and Hucabee knows it. Gingrich (I think) won’t run. My guess is he reads the tea leaves that the script has been written for Obama to get a second term or that, in the alternative, it goes to Hilary.

The real problem is we haven’t figured out how to divide, break up, infiltrate or otherwise unplug the power structure of elites we honestly can’t see very well that make these decisions. But the fact that Obama was elected and more importantly, the way he was elected, is a clear indication that they’re the ones calling the shots.

For example, when we examine the 2008 election, we find that virtually all of the capable, main stream Republican candidates called in sick and dropped out. That wasn’t an accident.......I believe they were called or “counseled” by the Elites to drop out and were told that they’d get another shot one day but that they’d decided that it was going to be Obama. To make an appearance of a contest, McCain was chosen to carry the flag for the Republicans, but it was very obvious from the way he ran his campaign to the selection of Palin, that even he didn’t take it seriously and new quite well the fix was in.

Oddly enough, the one thing that might undo the elites would be something that ultimately, they’ve engineered, i.e., a dollar crisis.

It will be interesting to see how this works out.

Romney takes whatever policy position is convenient at the time. Of course he’d be “for” whatever was “popular.”

At this point this just proves most people really aren’t informed. Romney gets 17% among those interested in spending and power? Have they ever heard of Romneycare? They’re worried about govt power and they want a guy who forced his citizens to buy health insurance at penalty of a fine or jail time? They’re worried about spending and they support a guy in Huckabee who raised taxes numerous times, supported cap and trade and other increased spending measures?

I’d be more interested in seeing why they said those two if they care about those issues. I think once they start to get more engaged and find out more about their records that’ll change.

It does show that Huckabee splits the social issues vote. He makes things tougher for her. If he doesn’t run, she’s in much better shape.

Also somewhat odd that Huckabee would be leadng on spending and govt power but trailing on the economy and business. Or that she’d be trailing on one and doing better on the other. They sort of go together. So people like Huckabee for spending and govt power but not for the economy and buisness? Doesn’t make sense.

But natl security is ultimately the main issue when it comes to the Presidency. The one they have the most control over. The President can only do so much on spending. So, it’s good to see her doing well on that. Must be embarrasing for Romney and Huckabee to be losing on natl security to a 2/3 term Governor on that.

In any event, it’s way too early. I’ll wait until the field is set and they’ve campaigned for a few months and then see where things stand to get a better idea.

I like Cain very much. My sister is working to see him elected. The caveat is no government experience. Government is really different than business. It operates by consensus in a way that isn’t present in business.

The ideal candidate would be someone who moved from governance of a state, into a successful business or vice versa. They need to be just nominally conservative, not perfectly conservative.

The place were conservatism matters most is in Congress. It is at that level that we can set the agenda with a President that isn’t an enemy to American ideals, though he may be wishy washy otherwise.

Wrong. We knew that back when a solid plurality voted Obama as POTUS.

The goal is Congress. If Romney, Huckabee or McCain would have won we wouldn't have gotten the Congress we have today.

Obama's a blessing in that one way. We need to hold Congress and not hand-wring too much over who is President.

A right of center candidate, from either party, is to our benefit. It might even be best for a conservative Dem (particularly if he's fiscally conservative) to win as that will provide a lot of cover for us.

Moving forward the fight for conservatives is in Congress and among the various states. Federalism will win the day as pro-socialist states whither themselves away.

Look to gun control and abortion as indicators that we have a decades long fight on our hands, but that the thoughtspace is on our side - thank Talk Radio (Limbaugh) and the Internet.
